Reaching my 1st goal...

Okay! I'm almost there... When we got the bike my goal was for me to be able to ride to the families 4th of July reunion. That reunion is Saturday. My bike is in Alvaredo and the reunion is in Springtown, so the trip is about 65-70 miles one way... Mostly freeway. I currently have about 300 total miles of experience on my bike and I just finished the MSF last weekend. I'm geared from head to toe and I'm excited and nervous at the same time... (My 1st long-ish freeway ride).

I'll be riding with 2 other bikes and a chase car... not alone. :)

Any suggestions or advice?

MD

If it were me, I'd follow the other two bikes at a respectable distance if you aren't familiar with their riding habits or skill.Review the universal riding positions with regard to multiple bikes in a group.

sounds like a fun ride :) .

Just take a deep breath and relax...

If your riding with two other bikes have one in front leading the way and one behind as a buffer and make sure you have plenty of space in between. Let us know how it goes.

+1 to you being in the middle

most difficult positions to ride in a formation are the lead and the tail

experienced riders in those positions can alert you to dangers or act as a buffer to keep traffic off your butt.

you still have to keep your mind on your buiness out there, but have fun. The only way to get highway experience is to get out there and ride it and it sounds like you are set to have a better highway group than most do their first time

Thanks guys... I'm riding the middle with my Nephew in lead, my Neice (his wife) at tail and my wife is driving the chase car. I know the route very well and know about riding staggered. We have a stop planned at about 1/2 way and the weather should be great for it... Highs in the mid 90s, but in the 80s when we ride. Light wind 5-10 MPH, and mild humidity with partly cloudy skies. We've talked about keeping the speed down to 55ish just to "feel" safe, but we'll probably get up to 60 I'm sure.

I'm amped! Relaxing is the hard part...
