what if a shop did this to you

ok a buddy of mine bought a used marauder and it started running bad so he took it back to the dealer for work. it took them first of all way to long to do the work and they kept blowing him off when he called to check up. he eventually gets the bike which is supposed to be 100% good to go they dont elaborate on what was done and my friend was just happy to have it running strong again. so he is riding home on the freeway with a passenger when suddenly the bike starts to run bad and he notices gas leaking out. his leg covered in gas by the time he makes it home. he calls the shop and demands they fix it Again, they suggest he just rides it back to them. he reminds them its leaking alot of gas. so they finally agree to tow it. after another week we go to pick it up, they say instead of replacing the float bowls they just tried to fix the ones in there. and they had given out or cracked or something(excuse my lack of engine knowledge).

to me they should have first given him an option of replacing or repairing. they insited they tried to save him money doing it that way its no big deal. if it were me with gas all over me while riding on the freeway id had a massive fit. i mean that gas cought catch fire way to easy.... and after all that they made no effort to compensate him in any way. 2 weeks with no bike almost catching him on fire and stuck with a hefty bill on a bike he just bought from them.

but just wanted to share that. i am always so hesitant taking my bike any where to get work done now.

So typical of bike shops these days....take ya money & see ya later!

F.U. if ya have a Problem....

*Now if he had of bought a Harley then it would never break down, be very reliable & the dealer would have given you a 'loaner' while your bike was being checked out.

(Sorry, lost my mind there for a moment!)

Well I guess it depends on the situation. If the bike was sold without warrentee then I suppose that is the way it goes. I think many shops are busy and the person bringing in a piece that needs work has to expect to wait some. I doubt you can get a bike in a shop out here in under two weeks. If that is the case there, the time frame doesn't seem unreasonable.

If the bike ran good when he bought it, I think it is reasonable to assume that during the presale checkup the bike would seem okay so the people that work at the dealership are just that --people-- kinda hard for them to predict what's going to happen down the road dontcha think?

I bought a Kawasaki new in '94 and it was back in the shop within a week. The dealer claimed there was some "excrement" in a carb. This was a new bike so you expect better than that but hey that's the way it goes

That sux. I take my bike to a little shop in town here where they know me- He gets my bike and all the kids quads- (4 of them) - so he knows I'm good to him and he's good to me. Even if I bought a new bike I think I'd take it to him instead of the dealer.

Unfortunatley you hear these stories all to often, it really is buyer beware even from dealers, that sell used bikes and sometimes new ones too. It really is a matter of finding a mechanic you trust to do the work.
