Where to go next?

#1 Unread post by MrShake »

Ok.. this is kinda a continuation of another thread, but lets start fresh.

1982 Yamaha Maxim 400 (xs400j)

The bike won't start. I've pulled and cleaned the carbs twice. Replaced the spark plugs, oil, and gas. The starter cranks, there is compression (not sure exactly how much since I cant' seem to get the right guage around here)

Those are the good things, now the bad.

Of Course, no Starty. The spark also looks weak to me (very small blue). After craking the engine, the plugs are dark and wet and the wet drys quickly.

Now the question, Where would you go next? My intention is to order the factory service manual (since I didn't win it on ebay) and possibly test the coils, plug wires. Do any of you have any sugestions about what else I can try between now and when I get the manual?

I have tried carb cleaner into the carbs while cranking and no boom.

if you didnt replace the o ring on the fuel inlet needle seat it is probably leaking by it.they are famous for this.if it is leaking by this o ring it will fill the bowl to overflowing.the float rising and stopping the fuel from entering the bowl cannot stop this.
