So i want to get a bike in the next couple months. Just waiting for my DUI license suspension to end which will be in september.. I have never owned a bike and while i have experience riding quads i have never riden a street bike. But my question is, is it going to be possible for me to even get insurance with a DUI on my record? if so any suggestions with companies ?? I tried geico and the wont even insure me until three years after my DUI..

Thanks, Nick

try some others...

or try to those small time insurance companies... they might not be dependable when you need them but at least you can ride legally.

usually, the magic number is 25.

once you reach 25yo, you get lower rates.

im paying $1600/yr for both my car and bike... around $980 of that is for my car (liability only) and the rest is for my bike (full coverage).

i could have gotten it even cheaper but i got a ticket.

as you can see, my car is old and only liability but im still paying a lot more for it compared to my supersport bike w/ full coverage.

I'm paying $452 per year on an '87 Yamaha XV535. This includes collision and comprehensive ($250 and $100 deductables respectively), passenger medical payments, uninsured motorist, $25k basic economic loss, and 50/100 liability.

I'm 25 and have no motorcycle experience but [will have] taken the MSF course. I do not have any tickets or accidents on my driving record.

Call Progressive or go online www.progressive.com

They insure ANYBODY..esp DUI's

You pay thru the o-ring but they will insure you and they are great if you ever need to make a claim.

To save $$$ make the deductibles high (always check what the lower deduc is to make the decision)

Get a bike for $3-4k and just ride on liability. That will save you hundreds that you can put towards your next bike as your points roll off.

i have my house, both our cars and both bikes thru state farm....as a result adding the harley (full coverage) only cost 330 dollars a year. all that and business insurance for her daycare is 1800 a year (all other vehicles are liability only)
granted i am 34 and have a good driving record (1 ticket) but
group your insurance and shop around....it pays off

I'm a new rider as well (finished MSF this past weekend) and I got Progressive for my bike. I don't know about the DUI thing, you'll just have to take VTX1300C's word for it, but they were fast and best of all, you could do it all online. I agree with the cheaper bike/liability suggestion...I wasn't about to pay more than $400/yr on insurance for my $2000 bike, but I guess it depends on your willingness to take the loss if you get it stolen/in an accident. Also, liability-only is a standard cost by law (at least in NC), so it should cost you ~$100/yr.

insurance will depend on so many factors other than the DUI that it is tough to give you an accurate estimate.

location, age, sex, driving record, age/type/size of bike, other insurance policies, type of coverage, how long you have held motorcycle license.

my 2001 shadow costs me like 140 bucks for a year for the basic insurance, the 97 ninja250 costs about 10 bucks more iirc.

The DUI is tough to get over, but not a complete show stopper, unless you also have so many tickets you could wallpaper your house with them as well
