Crash bars of yesterday?

#1 Unread post by flw »

I see very few and mostly older bikes with crash bars anymore.

Can someone bring me up to speed on the current thinking of the use of crash bars on modern bikes? Also what is general cost range of them?

Thank you for your info,

It seems that crash bars have faded out to the frame sliders. They rin you about 60-100 bucks.

crash bars are still relatively common on cruisers

even my bandit has a small set of engine guards that hug pretty close to the case covers.

I've seen crash bars that wound up doing more harm than good in a drop... actually messed up the steel frame instead of dinging the aluminum engine covers... personally wouldn't want them if they weren't extremely well thought out.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

the big wide ones are probably more hinderance than good. the set on my bandit very closely hugs the side covers. The set on my CX500 wrapped around the cylinder heads pretty closely and are mandatory on that bike.

I wonder what crash bars would look like on a ZX-14

had a set on my old cx500 the only time i laid it down (back yard, on grass, 10mph lowside) they worked beautifully, my leg wasn't trapped under the bike, which to me is a priority. haven't yet put a set of hondaline bars on the vtx (procrastinating at it's finest), but they're on the list. plus you can put highway pegs on them and get all comfy
