Turkeys and Blind Curves

Watch out for turkeys when going around blind curves. Riding at lunch today (CO SH67) and had to brake for a wild mother turkey and 6 babies. At least they are smarter than wild geese and headed for the side of the road as I braked closer.

Anyone else have any weird stuff in the road that they unexpectedly came up on?

Turkeys here also! They stay out of the street but hang out in front of parked cars so when I go by and all the sudden I see them move real fast or flap it scares the poo poo out of me.

Maybe Ben Franklin had a bike that we didn't know about because he thought turkeys had the power to frighten people as he wanted them to be our national bird over the bald eagle.

GO TURKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a tom and his harem stop in the middle of the road on my first solo ride. The folks around here must feed them cause they weren't going to move. I see them around the barn quite often but wasn't expecting them on the road and in that large a group. I counted eleven...including the tom whom I was close enough to touch him with my boot! Can anyone say "Happy Thanksgiving??!!" Can't wait till the neighbors bull gets out..Oh joy! :clapping:

I wasn't on a bike, but one day on I-10 east of New Orleans I was driving down the middle lane at about 70. The car in front of me swerved to the left lane to reveal... a duck and 4 little ducklings running right down the middle lane. I had to hit the brakes and cut off a U-Haul to avoid slaughtering the entire family.

hmmm... here in CA, you're not supposed to swerve or brake to avoid animals.

if you swerve and you hit another car or you suddenly brake and got rear-ended, it's gonna be your fault.

people on the other hand is a different story... you can't be blamed for trying to avoid hitting a person.

it's cruel against animals but it makes sense.

I ran over a goanna that was prolly 4 foot long, at about 70 mph, the ensuing tank slappa provided me with some extra entertainment. I lived goanna died, he came shooting out from the brush on the side of the road, I had no where to go.

I also was hit in the front wheel by a small rock wallabie, while carrying a passenger, we both went down, but it was a slow speed incident so riders ok, bike not so bad, wallabie died.

Kangaroo

At least it wasn't a kangaroo. Bet that would be as bad as hitting a deer over here.

Long time ago, came over a rise on the way home from work going 50 mph to almost smacking a white stallion running up the road towards me. That really did scare the #$%# out of me.

have yet to hit any living thing bigger than an insect on the bike.

Did manage to remove a rabbit and an owl from the gene pool on the way back from yellowstone this last weekend, but that was in the cage. Pretty good considering the 500 or so suicidal rabbits that I didn't hit that night. Luckily the deer decided to stay off the road.
