I'm almost 16, and I want a bike bad. How can I convince my mom to let me get a bike? What's some good persuasive info and stuff like that?

I've already thought of 1: On average, bikes get about 50 mpg; that way I'll be spending a lot less time at the pump and giving those radical terrorists a lot less than if I drove the truck I'm gonna be driving (it's my dad's 1988 GMC Sierra 1500).

Help me out here, cuz the way it's looking now I'm not gonna get one for another 4 years.

What can you bring to the table in this? Money? How about proven responsibility?

I'd specifically address those things with her if you have any hopes of owning a bike. Criterias and proactive effort of getting yourself properly license will help. Do all the research about safe motorcycling - have documents. Show that to her.

What type of bike are we talking about here? Dirt bike, street bike? What's your accident history?

I'm almost tempted to say that you need to learn to drive a car first before you get on a bike....

I've got the responsibility part down. I'd consider myself to be a good kid. And money? I know I can save up for the bike/gear without much trouble. I was thinking maybe a used Ninja 250 or a 440 or something. Some kind of crotch-rocket.

I've had my learner's permit for 7 months, and she says I'm a great driver. No accidents, btw.

1st get your drivers license.... because you can't even take a motorcycle driving class with out it, actualy I don't think you can even take the MSF untill you're 18.

I would start off with a dirtbike, show her you can handle it, do some off roading which is just as fun and then once your old enough get the motorcycle endorsement and get the bike.

The thing with Mom's is your safety, not so much from yourself but others in the street. Plus there is that stigma of young kids on speed bikes that she has to get over.

You are going about this incorrectly. Once you are 18 you won't need permission or help to get a bike... so wait until you are 18.

In the mean time tell your mom you'll be getting a bike at 18 and ask her to help you get training so you won't kill yourself on it....

Like posted in various forums throughout this board, you will really want to stay away from Race Ready (aka crotch rockets) at your age. Insurance companies really have a thing against people under 25 riding them. They have good statistics to back up their outrageous rates for the Ninja type bikes. So high in fact that it would be cheaper for you to drive a car (full operating cost considered) versus insurance for the bike itself.

Ninja 250 are reasonable tho.

Are you saying it would be better for me to get a small cruiser bike than a crotch rocket at my age?

If your mom and dad won't let you get one you're screwed. Wait 2 years until you're legal and can do whatever you want.
