Some people would tell you no right off the bat. IMO consider your riding experience, your physical stature, type of riding all sorts of stuff. It is considered a touring bike, but with about 77 hp it will move pretty quick. I dont know what the insurance is like for you down in the stated but I would get a quote first, for all you know you might be paying 2 or 3 times what the bike is worth a year just to ride it. For 1000 i would pick the thing up, ride it a few times and hey if you dont like it sell the thing

not a bad price on that bike if its in decent shape.

the power wouln't be total overkill. that 77hp is hauling around a lot of bike. Weight could be an issue. Its a heavy bike and like most UJMs probably carries its weight up high

hmm ok im still trying to decide (dont want to rush into anything lol). I also found a 96 honda shadow deluxe for $2000 so im just trying to find a good deal that wont kill me. I dont want to go to big as I still need to learn as the MSF I took over the past weekend was the first time I had ever riden a cycle.

Thats a decent price for a 96 shadow (according to kelly blue book values) if its in good condition. I have a 2005 shadow & I can tell you its super n00b friendly & easy to handle. Lots of n00bs are looking for bikes like this and it'll prolly be sold fast. Better call about it ASAP.

Only negative thing about the shadow is the vibrations at speeds above 50 mph can be annoying.

cool :D good to know about the vibration thing. My goal is to eventually get a ducati multistrada 620 (to which I almost bought one and the one I want is still for sale lol) but thought id be better off trying to learn on something smaller.
