Morning coffee....I took the long way

I got up early yesterday morning, it was a nice cool start to the day , the weather man said it was going to be 88F later in the day. What to do ? How about a coffee run to my favorite place...Dunkin Donuts ? Well, I'm retired and have plenty of time, so why not ? I got my V-Star and headed to Dunkin which is about 2 miles from my home, but that seemed boring. On the way, I remembered there is a Dunkin in Salem about 15 miles east of my home, so I headed the bike east toward Salem. On the way, I noticed one of my favorite riding roads running south, so I decided to take the long way. Long story short, 40 miles later I was sitting at Dunkin Donuts in Salem having my coffee. So, it only follows that I have to take the long way home.... right ? I logged 80 miles or so on my morning coffee run. How do I explain that to someone ? Only another biker would understand my reasoning. Go figure bikers !

we have ice cream in our freezer, but every once in a while we go to a town about 20miles away for ice cream. it's one of those things that everyone here does these days though, used to be noone would go there, now it's a tourist thing to do...i need to find good ice cream 30 miles away now hehe

i totally understand your long coffee ride, i would totally do the same thing if there were no constraints on my time.

Right on. Definitely something a fellow rider can relate to. :)

My morning commute is 7km, and sometimes half of it is pretty congested (re: parking lot). When I take the bike, I go around another way that's almost 25 km. There's no way I'd do that in my truck. :D

Last year I did something similar. I had a day off and the weather was perfect, so I figured I'd ride to the north side of Phoenix to my favorite breakfast place. I got to the restaurant, but just kept going. 5 hrs. later I was eating lunch at the Grand Canyon.

Sometimes it just happens

We have some absolutely phenomenal ice cream in Red Deer.

So it's 100 miles instead of 30. still worth the ride.

On Mother's day I rode down to the grocery store, 1.5 miles from my house to grab a card for my wife, about 150 miles and a written warning from the FHP I made it home. Those unplanned rides can be some of the most fun.

Oh, absolutely! I've gone out at lunch to "just make sure the bike's ok." It turns into "I'll just ride around the hospital once," which turns into "poop, I'm 15 miles away and have 10 minutes left in my lunch."
