Help on a 1986 HONDA VT700 shadow

Hello, I Just got a bike that my cousin owned. He died about three years ago and this bike has sit in his parents garage since then. I finally talked them out of it. I have gotten it ready to crank but the carb is gumed up. I can spray starting fluid through the air intake and crank it for a very short time. I was wanting to know the best way to clean this carb. Hopefully without taking them off. Also, should I drain the fluid out of the driveshaft and refill it before riding it??? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Sad to say, but you're going to have to pull the carb off, take it apart, and give it a full cleaning. If you aren't comfortable doing this yourself, you can always take it to a mechanic to have it done, but it won't be cheap.

As for the driveshaft oil, probably not a bad idea to drain it out and replace it with fresh.

Yeah I agree with the above. If you're not confident in your skills, just take it to a bike mechanic. Better to know it is done right than you messing it up further

It is probably a good idea to change all the fluids (especially brake fluid) if the bike has been sitting for some years. While you're at it, change out the plugs. Pretty much do an entire tune up. Take a look at the tires to make sure they're not dry rotted too.

I have already changed all the oil, air filter, fuel filter, plugs and I put two coils on it. I also had to get a crap load of rust out of the tank which took some time. The tires are dry rotted and I am hoping to have them put on as soon as i get it running. I had the seat reupholstered which cost me $135. The tires all together is going to be around $200. I am not real sure I can get the carbs of the bike. Very tight spot, and I can't afford to break anything. Thanks, I really appreciate the help. If yall know were I can get some used parts for this honda let me know as well. I need to replace right front blinker and a few other things it needs.

Oh, FYI. I have to admit I had a Brand new 2004 Triumph Daytona 600 and totaled the "pee" out of it. This is what I am left with. Thanks again!
