First, I'd like to say sorry if I put this in the wrong Section in the forum - but I could not find anywhere else to put this type of question!
I have an opportunity to buy a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja EX250 with 6km on it - yes 6, not 6000 - for 1000's under the retail cost. It was ridden by a lady who dropped it on her first ride and no longer wants it...she just wants to get rid of it.
The damage is the fairing is cracked (no big deal for this one), but also the upper fairing stay on the left side is either bent or cracked. I am going to physically look at it today to see exactly what is wrong. The upper fairing stay will have to be replaced, so the questions I have are:
1. What is the complexity of replacing the upper fairing stay on this bike?
and
2. Is there anything else I shold be looking for damage-wise?

If it's just cosmetic damage, I would jump on that opportunity.
I bought used, and my bike had been dropped once before I bought it. There were some scratches on the fairing, but the only real damage was to the brake pedal. It bent inward. Dealer replaced it for free, but otherwise there was nothing to worry about.

If you are talking about the part I think you are talking about, I think it would be fairly easy. It is held on with two bolts from the look of it. Only trick is that it doubles as the instrument cluster/headlight/rear view mirror bracket, so you might spend some time messing with that stuff.
Other stuff to look for... just the basics... it starts and runs, the controls and bars aren't mashed, etc.
If it was me I'd streetfighter it... the front fairing comes off leaving the cluster and headlight in place... clip the wings that hold the fairings/mirrors, put some bar-end mirrors on, replace the headlight with a couple small round lights, and do a little extra body work to make it tie together....but that's just me.
Sounds like a sweet deal.

Yep - it is the part you are thinking of - the instruments are attached to it along with the mirrors. It was just a little bent so the mirror was pushed down.
So I bought it for about $3000 under the retail price, and the fairing stay looks like it will bend back up into position. Not too concerned with the fairing crack - I'll probably replace it down the road a bit.
