So it turns out I did manage to work out a deal with a guy at my work, and I'm buying his 2004 Honda 599 in asphault. This bike seems to fit me really well, and I've heard nothing but good reviews about it.

This is really going to be a do everything bike for me, especially since I don't have a car right now. I've been spoiled by having a rather large (though ugly) pair of hard bags on my old bike, so I will have to either adapt to not having storage space, or get something to accomodate me.
I was thinking about getting a top box. I saw many bikes with them when I was in england, but hardly ever see them here. What do you guys think of top boxes, any brand recommendations? They are a bit pricey is the only downside (I'm cheap...)
Another option is a set of saddle bags. I kind of like the ones pictured on sev's bike, but they look a bit small. I think anything big would look rather ugly on this bike.

Givi makes both a topbox and hardcases for your bike. I just have a pair of crappy Joe Rocket saddlebags that get the job done, but you need to be careful when using them so they don't touch the exhaust. They can safely rest on the heat sheild though.

And welcome to the 599 cool kids club, lol.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Looks very bulky. How much do you need to carry? Seems like a large backpack or something could be a more versatile solution.

Dirty, I would love the look of that top box on a BMW GS or a Kawi KLR, but it just doesn't fit the 599 i think.

Sev, I'll check out those Givi ones. Who knows, maybe a tankbag and occasional backpack will suit me well enough. Unfortunately I'm not in the cool kids club yet, I gotta wait until 5 aug when the guy gets back from out east before I can get the bike. Then I gotta pony up the cash, but I think I'm getting a good deal on it at $6000.

Here's a pic:

I am not trying to rain on your parade but you can pick up a brand new 2006 for about $6800...

EDIT: this is USA money... not sure how the conversion works out.

Sidecase mounts

Topbox mounts

Givi FZ258 Monorack Topcase Rack & PL172 Sidecase Rack with Givi E21 sidecases and E45 topcase (Honda 599 / CB600 Hornet, '03-)

all availible at www.twistedthrottle.com

I'm relatively sure that with the mount racks you can fit various topboxes and sidecases of different sizes. Might be worth checking out.

Oh, and I purchased a windscreen from these guys, and was very happy with both the product (Givi) and the retailer, I would not hesitate to buy from them again.
