A bill was just approved for harsher manditory punishments against child molesters. A notable quote:

"The bill increases criminal penalties for child predators, including a mandatory minimum 25-year prison sentence for kidnapping or maiming a child and a 30-year sentence for sex with a child under 12 or for sexually assaulting a child between 13 years old and 17 years old.

A new racketeering-style offense for people who commit two or more crimes against children would carry a mandatory 20-year sentence. Repeat child sex offenders would face harsher penalties."

We shall see the next time a teacher in the news has sex with her 14 year old student whether she gets any of these manditory sentences. My guess would be no.

I also question the manditory 25-year kidnapping sentence...while this gets my two-thumbs-up for anyone kidnapping a child, how will it be applied to say parents in child custody cases who so-call 'kidnap' their own child?

the new law wont be applied to anybody.you can already hear the sniffles of the no harsh punishment crowd.the offenders need counselling so they can be turned back onto the streets to do the same thing again.then it will be said "this one just fell through the cracks"

I just can't see that. Child offenders have a very high rate of repeating their crimes. If anyone needs harsh punishment (followed by lifelong treatment) its them.

It's sad that any of those crimes don't already carry a life sentence. The amount of psychological damage done to the victim is huge, and the effects can last a lifetime.

Currently there are very few successes in the treatment of pedophiles, rapists, and the like. Even chemical castration seems to fail over and over again once the offender is placed back into the real world. Until they can fix these ailments, most sex offenders can't truly be trusted within our society.

this very week a judge here overturned a law banning convicted sex offenders from living within 1000 feet of a school bus stop.his amazing ruling was that he didnt know what an offical school bus stop was.with absolute lunatics like this buffoon running the show what hope is there.if he had a daughter snatched from a bus stop and brutally raped and murdered i wonder if he would know what one is then.

No kidding...not to mention the financial burden and ruined future if the girl becomes pregnant (or the rapist becomes pregnant and sticks her victim with child support).

Castration is a waste of taxpayer money. These pedophiles rarely do it for the physical act of sex, its the rush, the feeling of power, seduction, manipulation, etc.

No doubt it's election time. When I see stuff like this I ask myself,
"Isn't kidnapping already against the law" & "Isn't raping people already against the law" & "Isn't assault already against the law"

Why the need for more laws ? Can't we use the current ones already in place ?

I believe these penaltys are too low, i say if you touch a kid, or beat a family member, throw ya away for life.

There is nothing messier than a child custody case.

On the other hand if someone touches my children im going after them myself... go ahead let them out of jail early on *good behavior* i'll be waiting around the corner...

There needs to be a better way to keep the pervs away than the 1000 feet law. As one who rode a school bus, I know my bus stop changed every year. The law should be thrown out. And if you move them away from one bus stop, that just puts them near another one. And what about places that aren't within a 1000 feet but there are still children in the neighborhood?

I think the scum should never be allowed to fully integrate back into society. There needs to be permanent "half way" houses built specifically for them. Where they are forced to attend any treatments, must sign in and out to leave the building. Have a microchip embedded in their body somewhere to monitor their where abouts. Only be allowed to be away from the house for no more than a hour at a time unless at work. Be signed in and out of work. If not back to the house or at the job in the x amount of time it takes to get to/from there, then the police are notified and the chip is tracked. Same with the hour away.

The problem is that some loud mouth politicians and lobbiest will holler that building such facilities is a waste of taxpayer dollars. I don't like taxes, but I'd be hellva willing to pay some more taxes for something like the above.
