I've always wondered what the hell possesses (TOO MANY ESSESESSSSSRRSSSES IN ONE WORD

) people to buy stuff like GSXR-1000's and Hayabusa's for their first bike... then I saw the Ducati Supersport 1000 (originally said 900. DERP) at the motorcycle shop I'm trying to get a job at. And held it close, and loved it... then it whispered gently into my ear... "Buy me..."
*sigh*
Someone talk me out of becoming a sqid(mark?). No U. Helmets and leathers for me.
I think I'll go take a cold shower and follow it up with an insurance quote. That oughta knock me back down to Earth.

How old are you? How long have you had your motorcycle license?

25, and I'm not licensed yet. *ahem*
Like I said... I KNOW it's dumb. I won't do it, but... sooooo tempting.

I just did a quick quote at Progressive for that bike, and they want $392 a month if you want full coverage, which might be required on that bike by whoever is financing you..

Yeah, I just did that quote with minimal coverage. The one I was looking at is a beater. Definitely been wrecked. The place I was applying at is a parts store but they sell bikes that are repairable, and this is one of 'em.
The fact that it's been wrecked scares me more than the insurance does.

Hmmm I was going to post something very similar today.
Monday I met up with a bunch of my lunatic friends and we went out for a ride to a bike night.
Anyways... Si who I bought CeeGee off has had his classic '92 CBR900 Fireblade just put back together with skimmed head, K&N filters, Yoshi exhaust system and one or two other performance mods... It's a beast.
So anyway while we are sat at the service station waiting for Dukanmortis to find us Si lends me the 'Blade...
Oh dear gods. It's months since I rode a bike rather than the trike. I thought I was going to drop it getting it out of the station, the postion was all wrong I couldnt find the bite/throttle combination to creep it - for the love of gods everywhere I couldn't tell the engine was working on tickover.
Then I got it out on the road. I'm not sure I took her out of third gear - she certainly didnt go over 5,500 revs for the 6 or 7 miles of twisties I took her through then I turned her round and went back. I've just about stopped giggling now.
I kept the speed legal, more or less, and just concentrated on keeping the speed through the corners and did I! Easiest thing in the world. I started thinking about how fast I could take these bends because there was a whole lot of lean angle I wasn't using there...
Far too quick I was back with the others and handing her back to her owner. I am not too sure if I want one or not but I can certainly see the attraction.
Oh and we followed a friend of Si's who runs a very modded R1 on the way back, the CBR was pacing him at 135mph when the R1 popped a wheelie. So for the guys saying that the 'Busa footage was "bull dodo" because you can't hold the wheel up at those kinds of speeds - sorry.

When you stop and realize that a $10,000 bike costs about $3500 a year in insurance just for collision then... well, I guess it's pretty easy to figure out that it doesn't take an awfully long time on average to completely destroy the thing.
The fact that insuring the *bike* costs 10 times more than insuring the *rider* probably tells you that there aren't usually a lot of medical payments necessary to cover the rider. Dying instantly is pretty cheap compared to the bike you owe $8000 on.

$3500 a year? Gawd I hope not. My Harley only costs me $400 a year for full coverage.

Yes, yes, bring up death as if anyone that touches one of these things is OMGPWND from the start.

Seriously though, I'm the same way with bikes that my dad is with cars. Fearless, but *VERY* safety concious. As much as I'd love this thing, I really don't see myself on one for quite a while. Gimme five years... that'll change.
I'm off to recondition myself to think an EX250 is cool.
