Hello, i am new to bike riding, and i waanna start off with a moped scooter. I am 13 years old and i live in Montreal,Canada. Now my questions are these:

How fast do they go? ( max speed)

How much would insurance be?

Do i need insurance?

How old do i have to be? my friends said they got therer licnece with they were 13 ( currently 15 now)

WhaT brand is the best to buy ( Honda,Suzuki..etc)

I dont want one of those stupid " Zuma" ones i just want a regular scooter.

and if u have a site where they have pics/selling scooters, plz post it

Thanks

Mike

how fast they go depends on the size of the scooter. expect to be able to do 80kmph at least which should get you around Montreal well enough but i wouldn't want to hit any major highways

yes you will need insurance, and a license for you and the scooter (unless they have some oddball rules in Quebec that i am unaware of.

insurance is such a varied thing, unless there is someone from your area here that can answer i would hazard a guess that it might be around 200 a year.

as for pics of scooters, just use google and try something like "scooter images" in the search bar.

have fun

Someone from Quebec should reply. I'm from Ontario.

All provinces have different licensing and insurance requirements. Quebec has a graduated licensing system similar to Europe. the minimum age for a motorcycle is 16.

It looks like the minimum age for an LSM (limited speed motorcycle, less than 50cc automatic -> moped/scooter) is 14 years old with parent consent. You may not need insurance.

A moped will go 35km/hr max. A 50cc scooter may go 70km/hr

Im in New Beunswick and have a Yamaha BW's 50 CC scooter. You only have to be 14 to drive one here but Im 37 and getting a street bike in the srping and leaving the scooter for my wife, hehe.

I pay $225 for insurance. The bike hit 70 km/h with my 250 lb body on it and a little less when my 40 pound son is on with me. On a nice straight it may go a bit faster but going on a incline 60 km/h is about all I get but at 13 you should be a tad lighter than myself.

Scott

Hey there
When I was 14 I got a pos moped for 100$. I was able to go about 35 max. I'm not sure about cananda laws, but I believe you only have to be fourteen in most places. My advise is get something that is cheep cheep, because you'll be moving on to bigger and better bikes soon, and driving. Check out the local papers. Also as a nurse and a mom I have to tell you that even if you aren't going too fast you still need to get a good helmet. Teenagers that have to wear diapers because of head injuries is not a pretty thing. RNrider
