I ride a 1999 V-star 650 Classic. I had been riding for about an hour. I stopped at a friends house and turned the bike off. I left the keys in so the headlights stayed on. About 10 minutes later, I tried to start the bike. It turned over a few times but then it stopped turning over and going *errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*. Now every time I try to start the bike, a part JUST forward of the battery goes *errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...*. Seems to be comming from the start relay assembly but I dont know much about bikes so maybe I'm calling the part by the wrong name. If I let it sit for a few minutes, when I try to start it it will turn over a few times but then stop turning over and start making the noise. Then if I try to start it again it just makes the noise. We tried to jump the battery but to no avail. Perhaps we didn't ground it properly though.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

...got a charger and it ended up being a dead battery.

Glad you found the problem. If that's the original battery, it's probably toast. You'll probably do well to search for a replacement at this point.
Bike batteries are generally considered short-lived. The longest lasting battery I ever had in a bike went 9 years*. But that's so far away from a normal lifespan it's almost ridiculous. I suppose the average is more like 4-6 years but the modern, Maintenance-Free types seem the best.

*In case anyone's wondering, it was an OEM Yuasa.
