got my first bike!!! (now a few more questions)

#1 Unread post by torxim »

Just picked this up a week and a half ago, i've been riding it around my office parking garage and finally got out on some back roads with a friend that has been riding for quite some time. Taking my MSF course today till sunday! Thanks for the advice for the people that advised on my questions I posted earlier. I decided on a gs500e:

so far the gear i have is:
helmet: shoei rf-1000
jacket: fieldsheer leather
gloves: teknic violator (got a great deal on ebay!)
boots: sidi b-2

as you can see I'm taking the safety element seriously. as of now I'm riding with jeans and i have hip and knee pads underneath. I'm being realistic in that if it is 90 deg out i'm probably not going to put leather pants on if i buy them.

any advice / comments / suggestions for additional things I might want to consider?

thanks!

Have fun on the course! Nice bike.

You may want to look into some riding jeans like Draggin or Icon or Joe Rocket so you don't have to do the jeans + padding all the time. Most fit pretty comfortably like regular jeans. You seem all set though for gear. Rain gear maybe if you get a lot of it there or plan to ride in it.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

good looking bike. good choice for sure. gear is looking pretty good too.

maybe take a look for some Joe Rocket meteor (think those are the ones) textile pants. they have some great venting in them and you can wear jeans or shorts under them so they are good for lots of different weather conditions.

For pants check out the Tour Master/Cortech overpants/air overpants. I'm trying to get a pair for myself. Not flashy, but they certainly get the job done. Also, the armor in the knees/hips is "triple density" (whatever that means) so I'll assume it's pretty thick.

if you havent already have the bike checked/tuned. even if it passes inspection doesnt mean its running at top shape, just at a minimum level.

Hey nice color scheme. I like that more than the commonly seen blue/white. Good luck on your course!

Thats a nice bike, Suzuki has been making that bike, unchanged for years and all the bugs are outta it, its made simple, its a great beginners bike that has the power to ride with the bigger bikes, good choice.
