Ducati Supersport as first bike?

I can see people cowering in fear just reading the title.
I've been doing a lot of reading on the Supersports and was quite surprised to find that the 620 and 750 models have engines of 60-65hp. The 620, in fact, has the same powerplant as the Monster 620, which is considered one of the upper-end "beginner friendly" bikes. My only concern is one of power delivery. The Monster's supposed to be a very well-balanced machine in that regard, and I'm wondering if that applies to the Supersport as well.

I doubt anyone else is fearful. If you go splat it is your problem and yours alone.
Most twins are very well mannered and their power delivery is very consistent. Ride them hard and they go fast but they don't appear to give any nasty surprises.

like the ninja650r... it's good for novice riders but can still thrill experienced riders. at least accdg to ducati.

Meh. Everyone's first reaction to something like "I want a Hayabusa when I'm done with my BRC!" is always "OMG! UR GONNA CRASH AND WIPE OUT A NUNBUS!" A 1000SS isn't exactly a 'Busa, but a stupid joke is a stupid joke.
Nasty surprises. That's what I don't want. I'm approaching this from the view that I will be doing trackdays and racing sooner rather than later (there are a surprising number of tracks around D/FW) so I want something that will have 'racy' ergos and handling characteristics, but with a relatively mild-mannered delivery. The choices are incredibly slim, as you might imagine.

The only problem with owning that ducati as a first bike is your gonna crash it more than likely and the cost of repairs are through the roof.
allso servicing and maintenace are high on those machines, and cant be neglected at all...

Thanks for the useless post. As an INexperienced rider, do you really feel you should even comment on what can and cannot thrill an experienced rider?

1+ Have you ever noticed that every thread has at least one post from Verm? Most threads have two or more.

Verm is not capable of passing up an opportunity to post.
