Is this old CBR400 a good beginner bike. I will be riding in about 5-6 years so will it be too old? Too rare to find? Heres the link

Uhh...the brakes are probably still pretty powerful and the riding position is less than optimal, but I'll say maybe.

The problem is where the heck do you find one?

That is the same thing I was thinking.

You are talking about not riding til sometime in 2011 - 2012, that is still a good ways away. I know everyone speaks of finding a used bike to start out on, that, I believe that is a great idea, but that bike you are looking at will be over 20 years old, if and when you can find one.

Think I would want to keep the range around 10 years old or less when buying a bike, but that is just me. It looks like a really nice machine and to think that thing was made the same year I graduated high school and I never remember seeing one. :o

Best of luck to you on your search though.

CBR400s are not obtainable in the US unless you find the odd european or japanese import that has found its way over here.

so why the 5 or 6 year wait? Am I guessing that you are too young at the moment?

in 5 or 6 years there could be a whole slew of different bikes out there that might be new rider friendly (there are more entry level bikes coming out now). Now the standard recommendations for most new riders wanting a sportbike is the ninja 250, ninja 500 or GS500.
