Well I have logged on over 600 miles on my Ninja 650R I've had a blast with it so far! And now its time to take it in for the initial maintenance at the shop as it is recommended after 600 miles. I'm planning to take it to the same dealer where I bought it. How much should I expect to pay for this initial service, and what exactly is it that they do to the bike. Anyone who has gone through this your comments will be appreciated. Also when I bought the bike the initial warranty is 1 year as I recall. The dealer offered an extended 3 year vs a 2 year extended warranty that I could get through kawasaki corp, for basically a better rate overall. I would also like know what peoples experiences are with these extended warranties. Are they necessary etc etc. As I recall the dealer said that I can get either extended warranty within one year. Oh I just bout some soft foam earplugs thanks to everyone who commented on my last thread!
I doubt that model gets a valve adjustment at the first service so it is pretty much an oil and filter change along with carb/fuel injuection synch, tire pressures, chain adjustment/diff oil change, cables adjusted, and check fastneners.
Expect to pay about an hours worth of labour, plus parts.
I would recommend the extended warranty. That shows the manufacturer that you care about your bike and in a case where you destroy something on the bike that is not covered by warranty, a clutch for example, they are more willing to help you out.
that depends on where you bought it at. Labor rates vary drastically from shop to shop and depending on where in CA you are located, you can expect to pay from $65.00 to $95.00 an hour on labor rates. If you get the valves adjusted, and most of the time they don't need it, you'll be looking at a total of about 3 to 3.5 hours plus parts (oil, oil filter, etc) so figure $20.00 to $30.00 for parts and the rest is labor. Call around and ask what the labor rate is. By law, it has to be posted. Good luck and happy riding!

Thanks to both you Corsco and Basshole for responding. Yeah when I bought the bike I almost got the extended warranty but then the sales guy said that I had a year to decide, so I said fuggit let me think about it As far as the initial maintenance is concerned thats a good idea to call around, I dont think i'm obligated to take it to the dealer where I bought it. Theres probably 3 places that i'm thinking of all within a reasonable distance. Since I'm getting over 50 mpg the ride over shouldnt be a problem Maybe grab a latte and a bear claw at starbucks on the way over
