I had a 1997 1200 SPORTY CUSTOM a while ago & I thought it was great.
Some people hang it on Sportsters by calling owners & their bikes names etc.
However I loved my Sporty & now with the 07 models there is even more reason to dig them.
A lot of people don't want to buy a Harley because of their high purchase price....however the Sporster is not that expensive.
Would you buy one as your first Harley?
Anyone else ever owned one? If so what did you think of it?

I bought an '06 Sportster 883 custom as my first bike.

So far not that many miles on it, but I'm using it to commute as much as possible (stupid new england weather!) and loving it completely.
My dealer was trying to get rid of the '06 inventory so they were doing very low prices and I couldn't resist. I'm very happy with it!

Arrr....that IS the way to go...get the deal before the next model hits the showroon floor!
I did that just recently with my new 06 Street-Rod.
Here is a Pic of my 1200 Sporty Custom. (SOLD)

I had a 1995 1200 XLH for my first bike/Harley ever...it was a cool bike! Of course I did not know any better! It would be hard to have that as my regular ride now.......

SPORSTER or TOURING model....Hmmmmmmn.....SPOR...ah...it's a no brainer.
I liked my Sporty for tearing up the suburbs & the city grid....

I have never owned a sporty....after watching a flat track race I now desire an 883R. Looks like about as much fun as you can have with your pants on.

Have an '05 Sporty converted to a 1200 with the SE kit. Love this bike. Use it for short hauls and for overnighters. Ride a lot of 2-up and it's well up to the task.

Yes that's right! Sporties can be Comfort-ized to do long hauls.
It pays to add a larger fuel tank though on the early models.
