Whats the salestax rate in your state? 7-8%? Every $100 you spend you potentially do not pay an extra $8. Whats taxfree?
Clothes.
Thats it.
Oh, motorcycle gear is not tax-free, btw, for any new members hoping to get a deal. Fact is, you can save a LOT more just by stashing your money and buying next weekend. Why? Alot of stores will have inflated inventory from tax-free weekend buildup that they will be letting go in sales.
The big thing for tax-free weekend are school supplies. Most news actually headline it: Time for Back to School Tax Free!
Nope. Only clothes. Pencils, paper, books...nothing is tax free. Just their uniform. How many of those do they need? 4-5 pairs max? Don't forget socks...don't pay 7% extra on socks that cost $3.99 a 6 pack.
Tax-free weekend is a joke. You'll spend more on gas and the hotdog at the Target deli than you'll be saving on tax-free weekend.

7% lol I wish that Is all I had to pay up here. IN ontario we have to pay
7% GST
7% PST
The PST used to be 8% but was changed a few weeks ago to 7% unfortunatly when the law was passed companys don't have to charge you 7% they can still charge 8% and keep the extra 1%

GST is 6% now as of July 1st
Her is Sask,
GST 6%
PST(provincial sales tax) 7%

VAT (value added tax) in the EU is up to 20%. That's in addition to Local and national taxes
But that's cool, because as a US citizen, I get to write it off
Plus emergency rooms and other services are free!

New Jersey had a tax free thing going for a while but i think the taxes are back to make up for budget problems. NY state is around 8.65% which is why i order stuff online.

Kinda weird taxing clothes to begin with. Don't poor people wear clothes ?
Aren't we supposed to be helping the poor ? Why is prepared food taxed ? Don't homeless people buy prepared food ? Afterall, they are homeless, so no kitchen to make meals. Goes to show those without money will be abused.
FWIW, no tax on motorcycle helmets here in Conn.
We also have some tax free weekend coming up only on clothes valued less than $100 or something like that.
Sales tax in Conn = 6%

Its the little taxes that matter the most. If we didn't tax clothes, even for poor people, how could we afford to cut taxes that are really hurting Americans, like the estate tax on multi-million dollar estates?

I love sarcasm. I think it just illustrates that it takes money in America to be heard. I can't think of a single rally of homeless people ever happening in Conn to address these taxes.
