http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/search.php

The search link is up at the top, near the login/register/profile links. It's under the banner.

I've bought a car on eBay. Um, just make sure everything seems legit, get your test drive with it, etc. You might want to take a mechanic with you just to make sure everything is in good condition.

Don't buy a bike off the net unless you can physically inspect it prior to putting down the cash for it. You've got no way of knowing what you're buying otherwise.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

You can always buy online, but make sure that you can look at the bike before you buy it. Just because the ebay add or whatever says it is in good running condition doesn't mean that it is. Not to mention the number of outright scams that are out there, where all you end up with for your money is a little 1/18th scale model of the bike. Or something stupid like that.

Buy online, but only buy from in your area. Unfortunately there are a few too many immoral people out there for it to be safe to buy a bike (or any vehicle) without looking at it first.

Ideally you'll be taking a mechanic with you when you check it out as well.

You could try Cycle Trader (www.cycletrader.com). I'm actually looking for a bike on there and on Ebay right now too.

One compounds word: Craigslist.

hit up craigslist.com (it defaults to San francisco so you have to pick your city/state form the right) and find the motorcycle section under for sale.
that way you can buy cheap bikes that are all local
just watch for scams, cause they do exist
