So I dropped my bike when it was standing still at a stop light and it fell over. The round metal part--not covered by the fairings cracked and oil spilled out. What does this mean? Is this why the bike won't start and how do I fix it at what price? Oh!! And its parked on the corner a few blocks from my house. Its too heavy to push home so....what do I do? Thank YOU. Any help is wonderful.

What kind of bike do you own - you may have mentioned that somewhere in the forum, but it would be good to re-list that here for this sort of question.

If the engine block is cracked you could be in big trouble because that is not something that is generally repaired. If you busted a cover, you just need to shell out the cash for the new cover and gasket. That might be expensive even if it just a cover. Maybe a couple hundred dollars depending in the brand.

If all the oil leaked out, then you shouldn't try to run the bike. It requires oil to run without breaking the crankshaft, the engine bearings, and the pistons. It could have something to do with it not starting.

Finally, if it is too heavy to push home, you need to find a tow service with a flat bed, or a few friends and a pickup truck.

Heres how you get it home. Get a friend with a car, or use your own. But you need the friend, and a piece of rope. In fact you should get a really crazy friend, and let him ride it while you drive the car (safer for you, trust me). Tell your friend not to allow any slack to the rope, lest he be thrown from the bike. Of course this might damage the bike more, and your friend, but who's counting?

I would probably push it home, and take breaks if necessary. If its uphill or there are bad conditions next to the road, I wouldnt try it. Starting a motor with no oil is a very bad plan, you should have known that. Dont you normally check the oil to see if its full? Somehow I doubt it.

Its a Yamaha FZR 600. So its not the fairings

Its also 3 weeks ago and the other guy took care of it. lol. terrible, i know...and the book on maintenance doesn't come for a few days. damn!

Uh oh, if the engine block is the part that sticks out....and isn't covered by fairing...then yes. And oil leaked through it...so....um, is the engine block cracked or does it need a new cover/gasket and how does one tell?

Are you new to riding? You will have to remove the fairings and look to see if its the engine block or a cover. I bet its a cover. If you dont know the difference, you should not be working on it. You can make things alot worse by trying to fix something when you dont have a clue what you are doing.

Take the thing apart. If the cracked part is just a cover, replace the cover and live happily ever after. If the cracked part doesn't unbolt rather obviously, then you have expensive trouble.
