Modular helmet survey

So I have been looking at helmets lately, not going to get one anytime soon, but will in a couple years or so, starting my research early so to speak. I am looking at modular helmets as a serious option so far. However my head fits Arai helmets, or at least seemed to when I put a couple on at the dealership saturday. Anyone know of some modular helmets that have the same overall head shape as arai's do? Also some features like flip down sunshades and super anti-fog stuff would be great.
Now, for all the modular wearers, I have some extra questions:
Have you ever crashed in a modular? how well did it hold up? Did the chin bar stay shut tight? How easy on and off in normal use is the helmet, how easy does the chin-bar lift work? How well does the helmet ventilate? What kind of helmet do you have?
Now the above questions dont apply to KBC helmets, as I have tried on their modular and it does not fit my head well at all.

Also, I want to know what happens when the chinbar release mech breaks? anyone had it happen?

Read my review of my Nolan N102 helmet here: http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/viewtopic.php?t=12416

There are also pics from TechTMW of his. I thought I did a pretty good review, but feel free to ask other questions and I'll try to answer those.

Helmet breaths pretty well, but this is my first and only helmet so I don't really have a comparison. I tried on Arais when I was helmet shopping and they fit me well too, but I couldn't justify the higher prices and they don't have modulars.

I'd recommend the N102 again and again. I wish more helmets came with the kewl VSP feature as I use it ALL the time.

BTW, it's wierd seeing your avatar because you look like my friend sebastien...

sharpie, thanks for the narrative. I did try on the nolan I belive, it fit ok, not perfect though, or at least none of the sizes they had there I guess. How hard is that pinch open deal to get used to?
sorry about how your friend looks, I recomend a practice that has kept the ladies from running away for me.... keeping my helmet with the mirror coating on  ..... my girlfriend of about a year in the signeture, has no idea what I really look like.....

It is very easy. The trick is to first grab the bottom portion and move it upwards. This brings the piece on the front of the chin out (it is usually recessed into the chin). Then you pinch both of those two pieces together and this unlocks the chin. If you make a C shape with your thumb and your index finger and bring them together to make an O, that is the procedure for unlock the latch. Then you just have to lift the chin portion up.

So you get your groove on with a helmet huh? kinky...

I had a Nolan N100E and it was pretty heavy but quiet compared to my HJC solid. The release and attach strap works well, even with thick gauntlet gloves. Easy to replace face shield, vents worked pretty well and holds up in a low speed crash. I reitred it after taking a trip down a flight of stairs, even though it was still intact.

I heard the Shoei's are good.

I have the HJC Symax and I love it. There is a button on the bottom of the chinbar and you just give it a little squeeze and it flips. It's great at a stop when I can just pop it up and wipe the sweat off my lip. I've never had any issues with fogging, and it seems to vent well, but this is my 1st helmet too, so I have no comparisons. I tried on sooo many modular helmets, and this was the only one to fit correctly. I tried the Nolans and the issue I had with them is with the snap thing on the strap. It is a long piece of plastic that snaps into another, and it hit me right dead in the adams apple. Felt like a plastic knife at my throat.

I have no crash data, as I've not crashed.

I have the HJC CL-MAX modular helmet. It was great when I did the MSF course because I didn't have to remove the helmet once (except for lunch). However, I have heard the CL-MAX is inferior to the Sy-Max, the Sy-Max is made of fiberglass versus regular plastics, so it's lighter and stronger. If you have the extra cash go for that. Also, an extra large full-face helmet fits me but a large modular helmet fits me the same way.

Nibblet99, I can take my HJC off without flipping up the front.
