After tossing a few tools and swearing like a sailor, I'm asking for help.
I just replaced the kickstand on my 1971 honda CB750. The original bent..just decided to bend and collapse..yay.........
The new one is below but I'm having a problem getting the spring back on. The old spring is in great shape and is supposed to fit but unless I hire some guy with 40in arms, I can't seem to get the flippin" thing back on. Any ideas?

You could attach the spring first and then, using the kickstand for a better grip, extend the spring and guide the top of the stand where it needs to go. Have the bolt handy to put into place too.

Another method is a tool like this:



This came with my headers as my system is joined with many springs and makes pulling the springs open a breeze.

if you have a vise put one end of the spring in it and bend it to where the coils open.place flat washers between coils.put as many as you can this will stretch the spring so you can put it on then pull washers out.

hed the same problem trying to put the spring back on my center stands on my project bikes. I found the easiest way was to install the spring at both ends then install the stand to the bike. It gave me the extra leverage I needed to pull it to where it had to go. might work for you.

Use a screw driver to give you more leverage to get the spring on.

lol I was just about to say be sure to put some goggles on. I got hit in the forehead way too many times with recoil springs working on my pistols I learned quick!

I think I'd either trie the screwdrive method or putting the spring on both ends first and then try to jam the bolt where it goes in the frame

Well, got the spring on and the flipping kickstand sits too straight and tips the bike the other way

I swear I can't win...guess that kick stand is going up for sale and I'm off to get a new one. One of these days, I'll get lucky with this flipping thing

Just get out the trusty grinder and cut the notch a little deeper so the stand can come further forward.
