Personal war between 250 adn 500

#1 Unread post by IcyHound »

I have too much time to think about these things before I can pick the bikes.

I know I want a Kawasaki. However I am torn between a 250 and a 500.

My goal is to learn my bike form one side to another so that I can move up to what I really want in a year or so. I want to learn to ride and ride well and flow with my bike and from what I am understanding starting smaller is better. However the diffrence between the 250 and 500 when starting small is how great?

I did learn that my inseam is 34 inches on my 5'7 frame. I fold onto a 250. It is not uncomfrotable, but I am folded. The 500 I flatfoot with knees bent and fold onto as well, but with a little more room.

When it comes to the bikes what is the diffrence besides some horsepower? For having ridden the two of them. I work nights so don't have to ride in much traffic. I would like to be able to wade onto 495 (beltway around DC) but I do know that traffic is pretty much 75+ on that road which makes me worry about a 250 (I don't do rush hour, I refuse with any machine).

But if its a better bike for learning fine details over a 500, I can just forgo riding on the beltway until I have a larger creature. In general day to day I can't go more then 10mph over the posted speed limit around here or the PD is all over you. I'm not really worried about going fast. Sure having the ability is a huge draw but I can get to that later on something bigger and fancier. But right now I'm trying to figure out what the diffrence is between 250 and 500 since they are both promoted.

BTW I'm a sportbike kinda girl so my next step will be a bigger sport bike, not a curiser. I have my eye set on a preticular bike and feel that I need to earn my ability before I buy it.

I would say the 500 would be allright. I am working with a girl who is learning to ride on my GS500F. As long as she takes it easy until she gets used to it she will be fine. Also take the MSF. It really teaches you alot.

Any sportbike you'll have to fold yourself into. So go with whichever feels the most comfortable for the time being.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
