83 Honda VT750 Shadow runs on 1 cylinder up to 3k rpm

Just bought a VT750 and it only runs on 1 cylinder until it gets to about 3k rpms and then the other cylinder kicks in. Replaced the pick up coils inside the right side cover. Swapped the coils from side to side. Swapped the ignition modules side to side. Stator output is 9vac on all three yellow wires until you get over 3k rpm and then one of the wires gets a lower reading. Used a timing light to monitor spark on the problem cylinder and spark is present during cranking and over 3k rpm but not in between. I am lost on this one.

Stator output is much better than previously stated. I had to get the old battery out before getting a true reading. Did some tests on the regulator and it seems to be ok. Still looking for an answer.

Try getting the carbs synched and cleaned. Maybe a clogged idle curcuit in the problem carb.

Am I missing something here? If I am, please tell me. I beleive this is an electrical problem somewhere in the firing circuit. I am getting plenty of gas to the plugs because whenever I check the rear cylinder, the plugs are wet. If I run the revs up past 3k it will backfire when the rear cylinder kicks in. Should I be looking into carb problems?

Is the plug wire on the problem side pinched tightly in betwen anything?

where is tech and buzz when you need them?

Anyways, Tech is the electical wizz, but it sounds electrical to me.

I'd start by meggin' the wires to the coil on the weak jug, clean all the connections between the ignition pick-ups and the coil, as well as in the ignition switch itself. Clean the ground one the weak coil. A weak or improperly gapped pickup...?

Possibly a short in one of the wires that only un-shorts when the vibration levels reach the right frequecies, but that's unlikely.... running out of wild guesses....

Just had something interesting happen. While the bike was running earlier I happened to touch the starter button and the rear cylinder started firing. Tried it a few more times and each time I hit the starter it ran and fired on both cylinders until I stopped pushing the button. Perhaps there is something wrong in the start circuit that is causing the problem.

Maybe I'll have to take it to mother Honda for diagnostics.
