Hello All!

I am new to the motorcycling world but I have recently become very interested in motorcycles. They seem to represent freedom and individuality and I like that. They are in many ways like the modern horse (while cars and trucks are more like the modern horse-drawn carriages).

If I was to buy any truck or car it would be the Chevy Avalanche or the Chevy Suburban but they are far too expensive and drink gas like anything. I could probably manage to buy an older model but it would be inferior and still high on gas.

But now I think I should consider a motorcycle, in particular a customized (or not) two-seater cruiser motorcycle. How much do brand new cruiser motorcycles typically cost? And how are they on fuel economy? For example how many miles to the gallon can a good or at least moderate cruiser motorcycle take? How many miles can I drive without getting gas? And of course, how much do two-seater cruiser motorcycles cost ?

I live in Silicon Valley in California and it does rain from time to time (but nothing too bad). How do motorcyclists get around when there is rain? Do they tie an umbrella or something to the bike?

Just teasin', I have no problems in the rain because I have great gear to keep me dry. Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket and pants...

yeah riding in the rain is no big deal if you dont mind getting alittle wet...you cant be tearing in and out of turns or doing holeshots with wet pavement...not that we should be anyways... as far as milage and the like...it is different for every bike, it all depends on engine size and gas tank size...just like your avalance. you can get a new cruiser style bike for as little as 7 or 8 grand for a bigger japanese one...harleys start around 7 and half...and if you want something more custom..manufactured customs will start around 15 and go up into the 50's. true custom one offs usually run anywhere from 30 grand to as much as you want to spend on them.

Here in my town doesn´t rain a lot and I dont have this problem....

There are many options for the rain. One that I use from time to time is a rainsuit called Frogtogs. The are baggy and rain proof. They go over my riding pants and jacket and keep me bone dry. I wear combat boots when I ride, so my feet never get wet, and I wear a full helmet that keep my head dry. So some of my rain gear is on me all the time, and I can put on the Frogtogs jacket and pants for extended rain riding. If you tour on your bike, rain gear is valuable.

I can tell you a 750 to 800 cc bike generally get around 40 to 50 miles per gallon or more. Some will get much better but that depends on the exact bike your looking at.

As posted above quality rain gear is a must if you wish to use the bike for daily use.

Riding in the rain is not the same as riding on a sunny day. This is due to hydroplaning. It happens in cars/trucks as well but is not as obvious. Being aware of it is the first step, taking precautionary steps like slowing down on turns and in general is the next.
