yamaha rd400 engine swap

I have a freshly rebuilt motor in my 76 rd400, while it runs great, i am just not in love with the 2 stroke like i had been. Its great when its wide ripping along, but i do most of my riding in the city, and this particular isnt a whole lot of fun (for me anyway). Ive tried a bunch of differnet jetting and carb configurations, and at the end of the day, id like to go in another direction with the powerplant. Aside from selling the bike outright, woudl there be a somewhat compatable 4stroke to swap in? Maybe a newer 450 single or something? The reason i am somewhat partial to the rd400 frame is that i have a bynch of parts laying around, spare frame, wheels, forks etc...

The max motor height in the rdframe could be about 15inches. Obviously new mounts would have to be in order etc, but im thinking that one of the newer 4stroke mx or enduro engines may be a good fit??? preferably something that has the electronis for headlights, blinkers etc?

any thoughts or leads would be appreciated.

The best advice I got is to sell it and get a different bike.

Aside from cutting up one of the few RD's left (a crime), the cases on your RD are considerably wider than a 4 stroke single. Some funky motormounts would be in your future. And, as your thinking, hieght is going to be a factor.

Easier, cheaper and better results if you just sell it and buy a bike more like what you want.
