Since I bought a Honda 250 Rebel, there has been this weird hesitation. It happens so seldom that I pretty much forget about it until it happens again.

It has just been this hesitation once in a while while shifting.

Now today, I was headed for town, the bike was running maybe for 5 minutes. I begin going up a hill and twice the bike lost power, but the engine rev'ed.

If it were a car, I would think clutch. Since I'm new to motorcycles, I'm not sure of anything.

If it is the clutch, what parts within the clutch assembly would I need to replace?

sounds like a clutch problem, check your clutch cable adjustment first before you do anything rash. If it is the clutch you are looking at friction discs and plates, worse case scenario you would have to change the basket too, maby put some new springs in there too

My brother, the mechanic, adjusted the clutch cable when I went to get the bike checked. I'm very new to this, so I trusted him to know.

I took your advice and adjujsted the cable back to where it was. So far, no slipping.

And if it does need the clutch replaced, at least now I know what to replace.

Another option is to change the oil. Some bikes wet clutches don't work well with particular oils and cause them to slip.

Interesting idea. Any suggestions on how I would find out the ideal oil for this bike? I'm already using what the manufacturer recommends according to the sevice manual.

Are you using dinosaur or synthetic?

Try looking for an oil that specifically mentions wet clutch performance.

I'm using a synthetic blend.

Can you give me a couple brand names that would be specifically made for wet clutch performance? And where to find them?

Anything at a motorcycle shop works.

Otherwise check to make sure it doesn't mention friction modifiers or say energy conserving.
