Does anyone know if there really is an oil filter adapter kit available for the Yamaha V-Star 1100 that eliminates the need to remove the exhaust to change the oil filter? If this is real, do any of you have it installed and if so, do you recommend it? I think it a a bad design the way the current setup is on my bike.
Yes they do make them. Yes they are worth it. Yes it is a very bad design for anyone wanting to change their own oil. A very good design for a manufacturer wanting to make money from their service department though.
Sounds great. Thanks for the info. I'll be putting one of the oil filter adapters on my 1100 as well. No sense adding to the dealers already ridiculous shop rates! I've been doing my own oil changes for years on my 4 wheel vehicles, and I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet!
How hard is it to do it if you don't have the relocation kits? I just got a Vstar 1100 and wanted to do the oil myself. Is it that hard?
How hard is it to replace the oil filter?
You have to remove the front head-pipe just to access a single allen-head bolt in the bottom corner of the engine's side cover. Had they made just a minor change to the cover itself, the whole thing could be avoided.
It's really easy, just takes more time. It's one of the dumbest designs I've ever come accross. Of course, I believe the 2006 V*s don't need an ORK, and I know for sure the new 07 V* 1300 doesn't.
Yeah well if it just time but it's still easy it's not too bad considering I probably put about 300 miles a month on my bike, so it's not something I'd be doing all the time.
