As a new again rider (started 40 years ago and stopped for 38 years) I am curious as to current hand signal communication between and among riders. Where can I find out about such signals? I am impressed with the level of cooperation and sharing that goes on at this forum. Maybe we are not doomed! Thanks, rich

Thanks, lots of fun stuff on waves but I was thinking more about signals for cops, potential dangers, etc. Maybe no need nor time for us to communicate while riding other than to recognize a fellow bikers.

Hand signals probably have not changed since you were last riding. Im guessing you know the signals for right turn and left turn, these are nice for group rides as you can notice a hand shooting up faster than a blinking turn signal that is below your line of sight anyway.
Tapping the top of the helmet indicates cop sighting, tapping your gas tank indicates you need to stop for gas. Sticking one foot out to point at road debris is pretty common among sportbikers. Left hand down indicates slow down.

The hand signals haven't changed, but fewer (almost no) riders actually use them. Most riders will give a friendly wave, but don't know how to warn of a speed cop ahead. Cage drivers will flash their brights at me if there's a cop ahead, but not the bikers.
Welcome aboard, by the way. Enjoy the forums.
Cheers,
Loonette

I have a couple I use to indicate my displeasure with car drivers that have done something to annoy me.

Here in my city, there is a riders club that have almost 20 signals for his group trips. I don´t know if they use it, but they show these in his web site....
