Fuel Valve

Hey guys, I know that I'm supposed to turn my fuel valve off when parked so that fuel doesn't get into the cylinder and dilute the oil, but will that happen if the bike is ridden all through the day, everyday of the year?

I heard you should turn it off to avoid fire hazards when not riding if you're parked for a longer period of time. I usually leave it on if I get off for less than an hour, but more than that and I turn it off.

That's a lot of riding. When do you find the time to fuel up
In all seriousness I thought the whole idea to turning off the fuel valve is so that the carbs don't accidentally get flooded. Flooded carbs and the bike won't start.

Funny, I didn't "know" that I was supposed to turn off the fuel.

Seriously, I've never turned off the fuel tap on any of the dozen or so bikes I've owned. If your carbs are in good working order, particularly the float needles and float settings, gas will not get into your cylinders. The floats will cut off the fuel to the carbs when the float bowls are full.
If you ride your bike every day, the chances of your floats getting gummed up and passing excess fuel are small. This is usually a problem common to bikes that sit for long periods of time.

lol I leave mine on all t he time as well. The one time I did turn it off I forgot to turn it back on and spent about 30s wondering why the bike stalled just as I was about to takeoff. good thing I have to look down at my key otherwise it woulda taken me forever to figure it out lol.

My petcocks have all been vaccum operated and don't have an off. I use the off setting on the magna when I remove a fuel line to drain the auxillary tank though...
