Kawasaki going after the V-Strom?

Saw this new 2007 bike on Kaw's U.K. site. The call it the Versys. Looks like they're going after the "Multi-purpose-but-not-quite-dual-sport" market. With last year's Ninja 650 aimed at the popular SV650 crowd, it looks like Kawasaki is taking aim at the SV's cousin, the V-Strom. Interesting looking bike. Here's a pic :

Too late for that, given that Kawasaki already released a counterpart to the V-Strom, several years ago, The KLV-1000

this was the Kawasaki badged DL-1000, as the two companies worked together to produce the bike.

That bike looks like a re-take on the new 650R. I like it. Better than the V-Strom. But that's without having ridden either one of them, so things could be very different afterwards.....

Nice looking bike though. 8)

The Kawasaki "V-Strom" was discontinued as far as I know last model year as Suzuki and Kawasaki "Broke up" that alliance.. for now.

The VerSys (or Versitile System) is the Ninja 650R in more of a "dual-sport" mode. :D

I've heard it will be coming to North America for the 2007 model year, and if so, you'll know about it on TMW. :D

Absolutely right Mike.

Kawasaki is also in the process of developing a 1000cc parallel twin for a Versys 1000. The new engine might already have been developed as Kawasaki has planned to launch a surprise model early in 2007.

I just hope Yamaha will respond to the Versys by 2008 with an alloy chassis....

I don't want to talk about about another site but Raptors and Rockets is like the National Enquirer magazine, take it with a big grain of salt. Most their official photos are nothing more than photochops.

It would be nice to see it in 1000cc, but a 1000cc parallel twin? Seems a little unrealistic as that would be the BIGGEST parallel twin ever mass produced then, just think of the counter balancer/fly weight it would need!

Whew!
