Now that I'm allowed to take my RPM's up to 6000, I was wondering what gears should I be using at such a high RPM?

Breaking in is a very subjective thing. Some people say follow the manual to a T, some say that as long as you go through all the gears and all the RPM ranges, then it will be fine.

Frankly I'm more inclined to go with th esecond explanation as I am lazy.


Having said that, as long as your bike doens't start redlining or choking then you're probably in the right gear to hit the RPM you want.

My new Ninja ZX-6R says to not exceed 4000rpm in the first 500 miles, but it revs to high to keep it that low without going 40mph in 6th

What are you riding? If you are on a cruiser, you'll know what gear to be in typically. They are all torque and you can be pretty lazy with the shifting. My two Ninjas like to be between 5000 and 6000 rpms at ~normal~ speeds
