Hello, I just recently installed lowering links on my 01 Vstar and everything looks good except for when I have a passenger. I was just wondering if you need a special tool to adjust the shock or if this was something you could do without the need of a tool. I haven't tried it yet and I figured I'd find out before taking the seat off to get to it.
I appreciate the replies.

Your manual should tell you what you need to know. And if I recall correctly (I may be wrong) if there is a special tool, it will be in the OEM toolkit.

No, your right, I don't have the manual but I did find out that the special tool is part of the tool kit but all I have there is allen wrenches.
I'll have to buy one of those tools now.
THanks.

I have no clue as to the amount of room you have to work with, but I have used a pair of 10" Channel Locks with a strip of rubber around the shock to prevent slippage and/or marring. If you can manuever them in the available space they work just fine and eliminate the need for another single purpose tool. I do know that some OEM preload tools are quite pricey.
