I'm new to riding and I've read a couple of forums, but I'm going to ask anyway. What are common signals for bikers to use with each other when either riding in packs or passing one another to communicate?

but if you go on group rides, ask the the group.

people use their own set of signals. it also varies from place to place.

A good one to know is when you see a passing rider tap the top of their helmet, it's a sign that there is a cop up ahead. I've been on the receiving and giving end of that sign

The AMA site has a good link from the MSF on common hand and arm signals. Here is the link:

Good luck and ride safe,

I like the one for "Your turn signal is on." I'm getting better, but still forget it at times.

It would be great if signals (for cars, too) were taught in driver training, because I see people driving around with their blinker on all the time. I would try and let them know as it is now, but they'd probably think I was challenging their personal space and plow us both into a parked school bus. Car drivers are angry, you know? :)
