96 Bandit won't start, won't go into first gear

#1 Unread post by Bandito96 »

Hi All,

First post to this community, hopefully I found the right place.

I have a 1996 Suzuki Bandit that refuses to start. It also refuses to go into first gear. The battery is tested, lights come on, and everything was working as of a week ago when I replaced the turn signal switch bank on the left side.

Someone I spoke to said to check the clutch sensor, but my nifty Haynes manual doesn't mention one that I can find.

All fluids are normal, oil was changed professionally (thank god) about a month ago, and I can't figure why it doesn't want to go into first.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

ok....so what you're saying is that the shifter lever won't go down into 1st?
Otherwise how are you trying to shift into first if the bike refuses to start?

Well, this could be real basic. Did you try rocking the bike forward while trying to shift. My bike doesn't like to shift into first if the engine is not running, but moving it a bit while trying does the trick.
