Greetings from MadMaxim!

I stumbled across the site quite by accident while doing a search for information on painting a gas tank. I got pulled into the forums, and haven't been able to find my way out yet!

I have a 1985 Yamaha Maxim X XJ700XN, recently purchased this past August. Before that, the only time I had gotten onto a bike was when I was a wee lad, riding a little 250. Always had the desire, never the opportunity. Since the day I finished my MSF course, I have cursed the rainy days in MI. Does it always seem to rain just before you get on your bike? It sure does. :)

In late September, I took a road trip to Stoufville Canada for a carb clinic for owners of the XJ Series of motorcycles. Fantastic trip! Pretty good weather both there and back but it rained the night of my carb tuning. The next day was cause for celebration during my wahoo! ride. I decided then and there to buy a Carbtune II myself and a colortune plug. I received it in the mail just yesterday and tuned my carbs the same night. What a difference finely tuned carbs make.

I am going to be hosting a Carb Tuning/BBQ/Wahoo ride this spring, If you're in the area and interested, drop me a line!

I've done a lot to this bike in the few months I've had it. Most of it is logged on my blog for your reading pleasure. (shameless plug) Needless to say, these old bikes are easy to work on! I knew pretty much nothing about motorcycles, yet have learned to do the majority of repairs and upkeep myself.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you folks!

Welcome to TMW. Nice looking bike. It looks new with such shiny red paint.

Congrats on the carb course. It will save you a ton of $$$ by being able to fix your own bike.

Thanks! I am actually going to paint the gas tank this winter, so hopefully it will be as shiny. :) There are a lot of dings and a medium sized dent in the tank from the PO.

I haven't yet taken the carbs apart; the bike is running so well now I am afraid of taking them out when I don't need to. Of course, now that I've said that...

Thanks! Are you down the Detroit way? I've met lots of people from Detroit over the past couple months. In fact, one of the guys I ride back from the Carb Clinic was from Hamtramck (or something like that...)

Thanks for the comment!

Maybe this spring we can go on a ride together? Terrorize small towns like Wayland (ala Mad Max in The Road Warrior)?

Let me know if you're up for it.
