MSF Course Question

I am trying to learn some of the stuff I will need to know when I take the msf course and have a couple of questions.

1. What is the size of the box for the figure 8?
2. How far apart are the cones that we have to weave through?

Thanks in advance...

the box is probably 2 car size.

the cones are easy. they're not that close to each other plus, you'll be on a lightweight low power bike that takes little effort to flick around. plus, they don't require a certain speed for the cones, IIRC.

but they do require at least 20-25mph during the hard braking drill.

good luck and have fun. :D

Thanks. I am trying to get in as much practice as i can since I can't take my course til next month. So hopefully I won't embarrass myself too much. LOL Since I am starting to get the shifting down I need to work on my course stuff.

chillax! the course is pretty easy. well, at least for most. if you got a decent mind body coordination... you don't have to worry about anything.

The course itself allows for tons of practice. I'd urge you not to "practice" on your own because you'll probably be doing it wrong. They focus a lot on procedure.

yeah I have decent mind body coordination. But I am a perfectionist when it comes to somethings LOL. Plus if I don't pass the course hubby would never let me ride again!!!!! I am sure I will do fine. I just want to practice and get more experience.

Hubby created a monster whenhe bought me that bike and let me ride it. Now I want to learn everything I can as quick as I can.

Jonnythan,

Hubby took me to a parking lot the other day and was teaching me how to do the figure 8' (he has taken teh msf course) It helped me when going around the corners here in my neighborhood. He has been teaching me the way they taught him in his course. (Air force is mandatory to ride on base) It doesnt hurt to practice a bit and he won't let me learn any bad habits. If I am doing something wrong he stops me and tells me what i am doing wrong and how i should be doing it. When doing drills while he is watching he yells at me turn your head look where you want to go not where you are,,,put the left foot down when you stop not the right you need that one on the break etc etc. I don't think i will be learning any bad habits from him. He is a very safe rider and I trust him to teach me right and not steer me wrong.

Hi Deedee,

The MSF actually posts the range layout on their site. Here is the link:

Good luck and ride safe.

I remember them saying that the box was the size of a traffic lane and a half. Don't sweat it, by the time the test rolls around they make sure you have a pretty good grasp on it. Even if you go outside the box go back in and finish the loops.

You'll be just fine :)
