Can't ride

Went to ride yesterday and my bike was making a loud ticking sound. Not sure if its the valves or the cam tensioner. So I can't ride until we get her looked at.

Hubby said we would start tearing her apart tonight if its not to windy here so that we don't get any dust and dirt in the engine. Hopefully I will be back up and riding again soon.
Have any of you had a problem with yours. We got her a month ago and the po had all maintenence done on her before we got it valves oil etc etc.
The guys at the shop said she was in great condition.
I am so not happy I want to ride
Have a great one and ride safe

I just recently had the temp light start coming on while riding. It's odd, because the temps have been in the 60*F range so I wouldn't think it'd overheat. I ran it for a while without the cap to force out any air bubbles and topped off the coolant and it hasn't happened since so I'm crossing my fingers.
If they set the valve clearances too tight then you'll get some tapping from the top of your cylinder heads.

Would it have just started though? This is a new noise and it is loud. I just can't believe that it has been less than 500 miles since service and it started making this noise.

Sorry I'm afraid to admit I don't remember what you ride, so knowing that might help a little. Which service was it? And what work was done?
Where is the sound coming from specifically in the engine?
Most cam chains now-a-days are self adjusting, so I wouldn't think that would be the issue.
Did you have yout chain/sprockets replaced? If so it's possible that your front sprocket doesn't have a sound dampener like the oem one. This would account for louder then normal noises as that chain is whipped into a small circle around the front sprocket. This is actually a pretty common complaint.

Ok sorry forgot to post what I have lol. Its a 2004 ninja 250.
THe good news though is SHE IS FIXED!!!!!
It was the camshaft tensioner. It was dirty and it was binding a bit. Hubby cleaned it out and she sounds like a purring kitten again. So I can ride again. I am just glad it was something easy. It took him maybe 15 minutes to fix her right up.
I am so jazzed no more riding withdrawls YAY
Thanks all for the advice and YOU GUYS ROCK
have a great one and ride safe
