Im in orlando now which most of you know is 2nd to california is my opinion but im deciding between the GSX R1000 or 750.... my buddy says I can keep up with 1000 on the 750 but of course they will be faster.... so is that true....
can a 750 keep up with a 1000? im not saying pass up and win in a race... but just keep up...

"It ain't the size of the tool, but the skill of the craftstman." You could keep up and pass your 'friends' riding a 250. Its all about where your SKILLS are in comparison.

How long have you been riding? No new rider has any business on a 750cc or higher sportbike (Verm of course, excepted. But we're waiting for him to wrap himself around an SUV or something).

Exactly how fast do you plan on riding? Both bikes will earn you a one-way trip to the slammer, so which one is faster becomes academic. I keep up just fine with buddies on faster bikes, but I'm inclined to believe that they're not actually trying to lose me.

Wha?... sounds like you have a somewhat competitive attitude anyway. "Just keeping up" is a safe way of talking here, I suppose, but it really sounds as if you're trying to measure up. And if you try to "keep up" with others on any bike (as opposed to just riding your own ride at a level that is comfortable and fun for you), you're bound to crash. Your focus should be on you and your bike and the elements around you - not on how fast others are riding.

im a new rider....but a couple of my buddies bout a gsx600 and his friends and he said he couldnt keep up so he bought the gsx1000 like 3months later, so he said it just depends on the convidence of your riding....but im leaning toward the gsxr750

skills play a big role on "keeping up"

also, are they trying to keep up on straight roads? of course, the gixxer1000 will have a huge advantage.

but still... even on straights, skills play a big role. just watch races on a dragstrip.

"I don't have the skill level to catch up to my friends so I compensate by buying a bigger bike that'll get me caught up in the straights so that the corners don't matter."

orlando he says... mostly straight roads and sweeping corners.

it's hard to catch a superbike w/ a supersport on huge sweepers as well.

A thirteen year old YZF 750 got within something like a second and a half of the thou's time. Thats pretty much ended the whole debate right there.

they would like to speed way over the limit and do to it faster. that's probably why they want a faster bike.

and 1½ secs is a considerable gap in racing.

im not saying i support them. i just understand why they want one.
