OK, yes i am back and have all new, serious problems with my 1996 yamaha xj seca II 600. ihave had previous problems and will define those first as it might help any one help me. and i really need it
1) constant white smoke at 6k rpm, oil. 2) a little lack of power 3)a ticking sound near top end 4) oil leaks from the exhaust are previous and present conditions
whats new? i was going down the free way, when i feel oil splatering on my leg. oil came up through the crankcase vent house into the airfilter box, and with it i found quite a bit of metal shavings and chunks, not big, but found four peices about the size 1/4 of a thumb nail. this was all sitting in the bottom of my air box, i just hope it hasnt gotten into the carbs, havent looked yet. but all the oil in my engine came out through that vent house and then out a drain hole while i was going down the free way, what would cause that much pressure in the crankcase and the metal, it still runs fine, and the ticking is gone and since this happened it seems to run better? im so lost and know something is really wrong. if i can provide any more info i will, just ask and please help me out here, its my only trans and i need to travel 30 mi. a day.
thanks for your responce in advanced...

Metal filings in the carbs are not your biggest worry, I'm afraid. You need to find out where those filings came from. My guess is either a busted ring(s) and or piston. Maybe not, maybe it's something less major, but that motor needs to open up to find out what.
It runs better you say. That's slightly odd..... You refilled the oil to run it, I assume. Does it still blow the oil out?

those fillings are not magnetic and not filling per say. more like chunks, or bits, so its aluminum im guess? its bright silvery, lol. and yes theres still white smoke, but im positive thats valve seals, but with this is it?
also what about the protruding oil? it just keeps coming out of the breather hose, and alot throw the vent hose that one day. so many different thing. u know of anywhere to buy used engines? ive looked but can find many 92+ xj600
ps, you guys should have a trouble shoot photo gallery. i have a few, but know how/where to post

This doesn't sound good. At all. Sorry to say, but that motor needs to be looked into and overhauled. A replacement motor may be a better option - hard to say. Try searching for motorcycle salvage yards in your area. You can often find good engines from wrecked bikes.
You can post pics of your bike in the Yamaha gallery if you'd like. It doesn't matter what condition it's in.

yes, me and my dad did come to that conclusion too, having to tear the crankcase to find out whats being ripped to peices.
but do any of you know what would cause that much pressure in the crankcase to push that stuff up through the vent hose? there had to be a lot of excessive pressure to push those metal bits up throught the tube. would my breather hose being clogged do that?

another thing. i just rode it around the block, the top end leaks oil, bad seals im assuming. but when i got back and walked around for a min i saw alot of oil coming out of the breather hose...

. wheres the pressure coming from ?

I believe you might have a cracked piston or a set of rings that just let go.
a combination of a bad piston and a fouled out plug could be causing combustion to fill your crank case. Hence oil coming out of every possible area.
I'd drain out all oil and see if you can find any more metal fragments in the case.
If their are no more signs of metal check the condition of the oil
1- is it dark black
2-is their fuel in it
3-does it smell really burnt.
If every thing looks good with no bad signs then do a compression check across all cylinders.
also pull your exhaust system and see what it looks like in their.
Collapsed baffling will do all kinds of bad stuff, as well as a family of mice that snuggled in for a long winters nap.
check out the small thing before tarring right into the engine. Most of this stuff has to come off before pulling the engine any ways.
Try these things out and post back!
Good Luck!!!

What Mike said.
The crankcase is obviously getting pressurized, like you observed, forcing the oil out of every available exit. You've got shrapnel in the airbox. Just a guess, but I'd say at the very least a piston, valve or both are on the casualty list.
Good luck, and let us know what happens!

The crankcase pressure is coming from a combustion chamber, via a cracked or broken aluminum piston, you can almost bet. Bad medicine, Chief. Sorry.

alright, big discoveries taking place...
i decided, with all u wonderfull people's help. that a visual is needed. and the easiest way to do so...take off the exhaust. i did and found out what the metal peoces are, why theres a lack of power, and constant white smoke, pressure in the crankcase, but the ticking sound i found is coming from the crank case not the top end.
apon taking the exhaust off i found in the 1st(i dont know the real order but the one to the far right sitting on the bike) cylinder is coverd with oil, and the round end of the valve isnt there, it snapped off or just gone. i thought wow. the we ( dad n i) devide to take out the spark plug to see if we can get a different angel. another suprise! the entire end of the spark plug is gone?!!! ill try and put a pic of all this up soon so you all can be suprosed and amazed with me. but its a completely dead cylinder! so chunks of the spark plug made it from the cykinder all the way to my air box. i dont really want to know, but thats pretty bad huh.....
thats it for now, but the drama is unfolding......comments are very welcomed............
