Little confused

Well im 16 and i only have my learners permit for driving a car (waited to late). Well i would like to go ahead and get a gs500 but im a little confused on when im able to get my motorcycle licence. I live in florida.

First it says you must be at the age of 15 and a half to Basic Rider Course with a valid learners permit or licence. http://www.floridasafety.org/coursetext.asp?class=3

Well im wondering is there anyway around this beucase i would hate to wait till im 17 to get my bike

or am i reading this wrong. This is mainly for transportation and for a little pleasure. Please dont flame me for just being another dumb 16 year old that wants to look cool beucase thats not why i want a bike i just love to ride

Also i got a quote from progressive and it came out to be only 300 bucks a year for the minimal insurance

. Is that right beucase it seems awfully low for my age.

Insurance rates are so crazy its hard to tell. Basic insurance isn't much. Usually liability with 25k property. In other words if you slam into a brand new Mercedes and send him off the road and total it and land him in the hospital, you're going to be paying for half his car and all his medical bills.

I read that as:

To take the BRC you need either a license or a permit. To actually get your motorcycle license you need a valid driver license.

So you can sign up and take the course on a drivers permit. But upon completion of the course, you won't be able to go and get your motorcycle license until you actually get your drivers license first.

Well i guess il just have to wait another year....

Kinda silly that you can take the course with a permit but not get your licence after the course but i guess thats life

You don't need a driver's license to get a motorcycle endorsement.

Take the MSF, and then you can get a Motorcycle-only endorsement. You aren't required to have a car license.

If you have any questions about it, call the DMV. As far as I know, you just need to take the MSF and then go to the DMV and get a motorcycle only license. Or ask them the options about getting it added on your car permit.

The GS500 is a very good choice for a first bike, and it is good to hear there are still some kids with a little sense.

I would follow this suggestion. Chances are the people at your DMV office know more about this than strangers on the Internet. If the person you're talking to at the DMV gets confused or doesn't seem to REALLY KNOW, then ask to speak to their supervisor - who hopefully has enough experience and knowledge to give you a definitive answer.

Wow thanks for informing me. And you would think that a florida site would have the correct information but i guess thats how it goes. I did think that it was kinda silly that you could take the course with your permit but not get your licence to ride

And yes im not just not gona be another stupid kid and are far from one. Me being a computer nerd

i have done tons and tons of research on what bike to get, proper safty ect. Now time to convince the mom

I figured the gs500 would be the best starter bike for me beucase its not to fast but not too slow like some of the other bikes that are good for starting out. And of the resale value
