About 250 Harley Davidson motorcycles will cruise through downtown Oroville Saturday to bring food and toys for residents in South Oroville in partnership with The Father's House Church.
This second annual charitable fun run will be followed by a free turkey dinner with all the fixings along with hamburgers at noon at The Father's House Church of Oroville, 2833 Fort Wayne St. Music and fun games for the children will also be provided in an alcohol- and drug-free setting.
The motorcyclists are the Yuba City Boozefighters MC, Chapter 11, who will gather at Hobbie Auto Center as a rallying point at 10 a.m. where they will enjoy hot coffee and snacks. The run will begin at 11 a.m. and the route will be through town to The Father's House Church on Fort Wayne Street.
"We invite people to come out and join us. We want to bless the community with a free turkey dinner at the church after the bike run," said Michael Woodward, a worship pastor for the music department and spokesperson for The Father's House church. Gold City Grill and Blueberry Twist is assisting The Father's House with the dinner.
"The Boozefighters are also bringing canned foods and toys, which are gifts of hope, and these toys will be given to families who cannot afford gifts for their children at Christmas," Woodward added.
The public is invited to hang out with motorcyclists, have fun, and join them afterwards for the free turkey dinner at the church, Woodward said.
"We are starting a food bank in South Oroville in partnership with the Gleaners in Sacramento, who will give us food. Our food bank will be open to people in need throughout the year. We are also looking to start building a vegetable garden in future to provide fresh vegetables," Woodward said.
If anyone would like to donate to the food bank, bring any canned foods to The Father's House Church Saturday. "We'll take any kind of canned food that's not perishable, and we'll give it away and there are families who will take the food in South Oroville," Woodward said.
The Oroville Police Department, El Medio Fire Department, Staples, Oroville Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Business Association are also supporting the motorcycle fun run.
The Boozefighters motorcycle club is an international non-profit organization with chapters in almost every state in the U.S. It was established in Southern California in 1946 by returning WWII veterans. Founded by Willie Forkner, the Boozefighters are a charitable organization that donates thousands of dollars to needy recipients all over the world, such as for The Batten Disease Foundation, The United Way, the American Cancer Society, and support groups for wounded U.S. soldiers overseas, among others.
