SO?.....

#1 Unread post by syndicate.01 »

Is there anybody here, that does like either the HYOSUNG, or UM motorcycles?...... I wanted to know, before I go and invest money into a [um] motorcycle, that isn't worth the metal and rubber that it's made from... Also: Does anybody have any opinion on these makers?:

* CAGIVA
* MOTO MORINI
* MV AGUSTA
* BENELLI
* KTM [They do make fully dressed and naked superbikes, by the way]

Currently, none of them, are being sold in the states, but if there were: Would you choose them, over UM, or HYOSUNG?... Please becareful as you address your opnion to me: It will make all the more effect, as to my desiding on buying.... [If you want photos of any of the euro motocycle makers, let me know, and I will post my favorite photos of them] THANKS! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: ......

All of them apart from Cagiva are in a different league to the Hyosungs. I like the Hyosung, I think you get plenty of bang for your buck and they are a good motorbike.

What you are listing here though are thoroughbreds, there are few Amercian or Japanese bikes i'd even consider over an Augsta/Benelli/KTM if I had an unlimited budget and just one bike to spend it on.

To give you an idea the Hyosung 650 is half the Price of Moto Morini's on release over here and the picture is no better with the other manufacturers you mention...

MV Agusta's and KTM's are certainly sold in the states. There is a KTM dealer 4 miles from my home. These are both premium brands, as Kal points out. Hyosung's are at the opposite end of the price and quality spectrum. Comparing a Hyosung to an MV Agusta isn't really fair or very informative.

Explain something to me. This bike is comparable to GSX-R 1000 or YZF-R1. What exactly makes it so special to deserve a $21800 price tag?

[looks up the specs]

If anything, MV Augusta F4-1000S actually seems inferior to the gixxer. The engine is weaker (166HP@12700RPM vs. 178HP@12000RPM) and the bike is heavier (423lbs vs. 379lbs). Are people so vain that they are willing to pay double the price for an inferior bike simply because of the label? Wait, I think I know the answer to that question...

There was a comparo of the MVA F4 1000 vs a ZX-10R. They said the differences were minimal and the MV was easier to ride. It's performance falls in right with the big 4 japanese liter bikes. Just costs twice as much. And as an added benefit, it's twice as sexy (3 times as much in the zook's case) than the 4. If i could afford one, I'd buy one.

Because it is a work of art. You can get a Corvette with upgrades that can match a Ferrari, but that isn't the point. If people have the money and love the look, they will buy the one that they like better. I have a strong opinion on this, since I spent 3k more on a Ducati than if I would have gone for a similar spec'd japanese bike.... but I got what I liked. Specs aren't everything.

Not everyone considers a bike better just because it has the highest peak horsepower. A lot of people forget that and assume that because everyone doesn't buy XXXX bike, because it is obviously better on paper than the other bike they are looking at, that they are stupid and shallow.

Plus, sometimes you have to pay a premium for a bike that "not everyone else has". I don't know about you, but I actually like not seeing my bike on every corner.

EDIT: To answer the original question, Hyosung is starting to get more recognition. I think they are good bikes, having owned one, and feel like their sales should be picking up pretty soon. All they need is a killer model to get them mainstream attention... that, and a reliable dealer/service network.

You must be using the definition of "art" that I'm not familiar with.

Ferrari would likely still perform better than a Corvette. However, as far as I can tell, MV Augusta F4-1000S is actually inferiour to GSX-R 1000, and yet it costs nearly double.

Sure, specs aren't everything, but you can't charge a premium for an underperforming bike. I checked out Ducati specs and prices too. The only Japanese bike that's in the same class as Ducati 999 is Honda RC51. Well, Ducati is clearly superior. Whether it's worth the price difference is entirely up to you. My point though, is that to charge a premium you have to be better than competition. MV Augusta F4-1000S is not.

Ah, so it's just as I thought then. Pure vanity. But hey -- it's your money, spend it on whatever you want.

My coworker's wife had a VW Beatle that spontaneously caught fire about 2 weeks ago. She needed a new car. The primary requirement for a new car was that it has to be cute. She got a mini. :-) That's not something I would get, but since it's not me driving it, I don't care.

Performance does not always equate with cost.

Image
SV650 £5250

Image
GTS650 £4000

Pretty much the same bike but a grand and a quarter's difference, something like two grand American

No. Z06 is a better performing car than a F430. Though the F430 is a LOT better to live with (comfort as well as performance; soft, suple everything, whereas the vette is uncomfortable). The performance gain the Z06 has over the F430 is minimal, the cost, half. What one would I rather have? The F430, obviously. What one am i more likely to get? The vette. Same with ZX-10R vs MVA F41000. I'm more likely to own the ZX-10R, but I'd prefer the F4 1000. Besides, the F41000 falls about mid-pack when it comes to the liter bikes. It's no slouch, and it does it looking good. REAL good.
