I realy realy wanna ride on/around Pacific coast highway... But I only have a permit.

Is it leagal to ride on a CA highway with permit? ( or Does PCH counts as a freeway)

any Law savys ? Plz Plz let me know

I believe the higways and freeways are the same concept. I am also on my permit and can't ride at night or on the freeways. Call the DMV though to get more clarification just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't want to get caught on PCH with jsut a permit and find out the hard way. if ya call let me know for sure LOL..

I'm pretty sure the restriction applies only to freeways. PCH is a pretty easy ride, but whatch out for a$$holes pulling out of the side of the road without looking. You're better off staying in the left lane. It also gets quite crowded in the midday.

I called the dmv and we cannot ride on the highways they are considered the same thing as a freeway. Thats what I thought so nope no PCH til you get your license.

You don't even have your license and you want to move up in bikes? Just take the MSF and get your license and enjoy your bike.

In my state, the restriction is only for interstate/freeways. The PCH is a highway with a lower speed limit and no on/off ramps. Therefore I would say that you should be able to ride on it legally. Just make sure to stay off the 5.

And as mentioned above, the last time I was on it, there are a lot of people that will pull out in front of you. So watch out!

Call teh DMV Silent when i did they said no freeways or highways. That was about 2 hours ago.

do you just wanna ride the twisties of malibu? no permit needed.

stunt road and payuma... stunt road is pretty easy but payuma can get really tight.

mulholland is very easy until you pass the rocktore up to the viewpoint, then it becomes tight.

topanga canyon is also easy but too many cagers that will slow you down and they're repaving it right now so it won't be biker friendly.

malibu canyon is easy too but like topanga, too many cagers using it.

latigo canyon... i don't even wanna go back there. too technical for my taste. plus, it's also somewhat residential.

Yea, listen to Divide, he has your saftey and years of riding enjoyment in his best interest. Even if you think you can get away with it, dont ride on the freeway or highway or interstate or any road of that sort until you have your motorcycle license and taken the MSF. Watching out for people pulling out infront of you to get on the road is just one thing out of a bagful of things that could happen. And why add worrying about being pulled over to your ride when you will have to worry about much more pressing matters at the same time?

On the other hand, I completly understand where you are comming from. Im guilty of riding my bike before it was my turn in line to goto the MSF course... and I didnt even have a permit at the time either.. I just went for the full license after passing the course. Plus Ive ridding dirt bikes on the roads to and from the well beaten path countless times... even many before I was old enough to get a car permit... I chalk every one of the above mentioned experiences to stupidity... some I was young and dumb... the other... well I was just a young adult being as stupid as pre-teen. Worrying about being pulled over can take your attention, precious seconds, and brain computing power away from what you should really be paying attention to.

Now that ive incriminated myself...

The single most important thing I could have done before my time to goto the MSF course, was buying the book "Proficient Motorcycling". I dont know if you already have a copy... but it will keep your interest in reading, teach you years and years of the authors experiences and the proper technique to help you out in those experiences... or even the techniques to avoid it before it happens all together. You dont want to find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time... and eventually you will be able to notice the events leading up to that. You have to plan your angle of attack, not just find yourself using evasive combat manuvers. The book is just pure gold. Don't cheat yourself out of it. I bought it off of Amazon.com.
