Just so you know I have not done the MSF yet.. Still on the waiting list.. but the day is getting closer.. and closer ( next friday)

I have been riding for about 10 days now...Still have not been on any freeway ( I cant.. just got a permit)

and 5 days during the Rush hour in LA. ( by any means was not trying to show off)

today I was riding back from the gym at about 5:50 P and it was heavy trafic. I coudnt resist Lane spliting. ( I had done this few time in previ rides)
------------NOTE---------
I only split lane if all the traffic are stopped at a red light ( can i even call this lane spliting? since the cars are stopped?)

Though I know I do not have no experiance commared to U fine folks, I am physcologically fully confident.... I MEAN I FEEL NO FEAR WHAT SO EVER.. and no MY HEAR ISNT POUNDING EITHER>> May be its a bad thing for riding.. I dont know (yet)

ALSO I AM NOT A REckless driver.. I have never had a ticket.. or mishap. when I was 18 I got in to an accident.. NOT MY FAULT... this lady ( no hard feelings laydies) Ran a stop sign and hit my car from a side. I didn not have any stop signs.. Some might Argue that I could have voided if I was carefull.. I TOTALY DO AGREE...

since that accident I have been EXTREMELY CAREFULL when driving/RIDING/Walking on the street and even when Flying

------------NOTE---------

So anywho.. I was riding between stopped cars before I get to the edge the light turned green and other drivers ( on each side ) did not see me....

As soon as light turned green the started moving.. and was closing the gap.. coming on to me..

THANK GOD and the power of the bike **( I truely admire the ninja 250... like I said in a prev. post its got alot of potential and POWER for a 248cc engine. ) and my smooth clutch control.. 10000RPM and I flew away.. I was like half an INCH from hiting both cars.

I call that a close encounter.. My first Close call on a bike. and i know it will not be the last.

Now on I will Break from going between cars and merge as soon as light turns green..

or is there a better way?

I tried to make it short but carried away.. SORRY

yeah, just merge back into a lane when the traffic starts moving. that's the safest way.

for me... i merge if im not near the front of the pack. if im close to the front, i gun it.

Yes, there is a safer way. Don't split lanes. Lane splitters and shoulder runners annoy me, and I have this autonomous reaction that jerks the wheel towards whichever outside mirror the jerk happens to be in. Lane splitting and shoulder running are illegal, so guess who will be held at fault should one of them hit me. By the way, my daily driver is a full-size Bronco with step bumpers, brush guard, and a Category III hitch receiver. If you can't stop, smile as you go under.

lane splitting for motorcycles is legal here in CA.

shoulder running however, is illegal here as well.

ITS NOT ILLEGAL AT ALL.. Here in CA...

I would never do anything Illegal... specially with permit

Also I am not anti-Lanespliter.... If I see a bike comming behind, when I am on my 4 wheeler, I make room for them.. ( even before I had dreams about riding bikes )

My thing is if you can do it safely do it.. But I TOTALLY know what you saing.. Dont put others in Jeopardy.

Well

Well...
What if you are stopped at a light? you cant "jerk the wheel towards whichever side"

Off the record

silentx..... You must be very young, indeed. I get a chuckle out of your post and I have noted some of them by making them appear in bold

OK, so you have been riding for only 10 days, that's like what, 50 or 60 hours??

Yeeeeeeeeees?? Lane-splitting?? Legal or not, I would suggest not trying it again until you have more experience such as being able to better handle your m/c in emergency situations.

Moving or not, it is called lane splitting.

You may just not be experienced enough to know what real fear is. There's a saying
" I just don't know enough to know that I don't know."

As for voiding, I would think you would be more likely to void if you were in an accident, than if you were careful and Avoided it.

The flying away and being within a half inch of both cars was reckless of you. You need to realize that some cagers do not like lane splitters and will crowd you. You need more experience under your belt to recognize when to get out of their way, before you are pinched down.

There is a better way. Wait until you have completed the safety course and have a LOT of time on the bike before trying anything risky.

I am sharing and I hope it does save your life because I think you are way too inexperienced to be trying to emmulate the other riders around you.
Get more experience. Take your time. Keep your eyes open. Practice and practice. And take the safety course. Don't try to "keep up" with the otherw. Eventually you will "catch up" and maybe sur"pass" them. But 'til then, Ride Safe and Ride Often. :santa:

WOW.. some good strong stuff.. REally .. Thanks alot for the advice..

I am not sure if I am so young anymore.. LOL does 23 sounds young to you?

Its almost like being ..middle age.. to me.. Really I am not young..
to me Young is 17-19

question
OK, so you have been riding for only 10 days, that's like what, 50 or 60 hours??

Nope not at all.. lot less.. I would say about 25 Hours... Yes I know what you gonna say,..

I have told myself, and promissed I will not split lanes

:frusty: :frusty:

but I couldnt resist the fact I could be in front of all thouse cars if I split lanes.. and cut the time in half ( I know.. you gonna say CUT THE LIFE in half too... )

"The flying away and being within a half inch of both cars was reckless of you." TOTALY DO AGREE...

Also I try to stay away from Sports cars... They have something to Prove to Biker... *( wait till I get my 750  )

Bullshit.

1. Lane splitting is perfectly legal in California.

2. Lane splitting is *safer* than stopping behind a car in heavy traffic. My coworker's car got hit from behind and totalled. Imagine what would happen to a bike.

It sounds like silentx's mistake is not merging back into the lane when the light turned green.

This is odd. It never happened to me, but then I don't like riding or driving in heavy traffic.
