Animal Abuse

A couple weeks ago two kids from Calgary Alberta brutally beat then dragged a dog behind their pickup truck eventually resulting in its death.
I have just been informed that a friend of mine who is a... well lets say a crusader for animal rites has come upon a petition asking for stiffer penalties for cases of animal abuse. He is hoping to collect as many signatures as possible so.
I have just received a copy of an official and legal petition being submitted to the house of commons in Ottawa before Christmas asking for stiffer penalties for animal abuse. For those interested in signing it, or collecting signatures, please send me your email address as soon as possible and i will send you a copy.

I hope the two kids got some sort of penalty.
I saw a program recently about a program whereby people go around neighbourhoods looking for abused animals. They then report what they see and the police come back with a warrant.
In one particular case, the dog had been chained up outside in the freezing cold, had no fresh water and had to sit in its own excrement, was fed so little it was a bonerack.
Well, they rescued the dog and it is now a happy, healthy dog in a loving family and the former owner is in jail.

Thats sad. DH and I would watch the animal rescue shows...with the ASPCA folk in Detroit, Houston and San Fransisco IIRC. Its simply amazing to see how poorly some animals are treated.
Jokingly, we tell Chester (our labrador) that we put it on so he can see how good a life he really has - he better appreciate it!
I hope those kids pay the price for what they've done. There's no excuse for that.

I totally agree with you all, but on the other hand, some just go way out of their way to be idiots about it. A couple of years ago, our dog got out of the back yard during a school/work day (got scared and jumped the fence during a storm.) The neighbors saw her in the street, and were in the process of bringing her back into our yard, had her by the collar, when the (in)humane society showed up. The guy in the truck got out, asked them if she was theirs, and when they replied no, took her to the pound. Didn't leave us a note, even though the neighbors tried to just put her back, and collar (with address/phone number) was still on. She has arthritic hips, and it was a Friday so we couldn't get her back til Monday. She limped for three weeks after that, it cost us $75 to get her out, and she came home with kennel cough. In my opinion, when they stop doing what they were originally designated to do, it's time for them to scale back or close up shop. Again though, if someone is mistreating their animal, they should definitely be tossed in the slammer, (and in my opinion, treated that way too...)

Actually Sev, those useless sacks of shi.... I mean kids, are from Big Valley, about 20 miles south of me. They are well known as spoiled, arrogant and criminal asshats.
So well known that hundreds of people around here knew exactly who did it when the news was released, even though our *coff* justice system forbids the release of their names. And many of those hundreds of people started calling the homes of those piles of diarreah to express their own thoughts about that macho friday night fun.
And wouldn't ya know it, those kids (who are not kids, but really young adults) figured that those calls were not fair to them. It
was their own dog after all
..... and complained to the cops. So now anyone who calls them and expresses their thoughts about this manly act will be instantly arrested, charged and tossed in jail, while these waste of groceries walk around free.
I have heard around town that there just might be a little surprise waiting for these dickwads one night on their way home from torturing defenceless furry animals.... I just hope I hear about it in time to take part in the festivities.

Wrider... why would you leave an arthritic dog out in a storm? Poor thing.

I've got an aluminium baseball bat. I don't play ball.... hate the game, actually.... but it makes for a great educator in cases like this. So I'm goodfergo in that department.
I am sorely tempted to forget large metallic objects and substitute small, high velocity chunks of metal in strategic areas, like knees, elbows, genitals....
....but will probably just use my bat to work these locations instead.
.....maybe.....
I think "I'm a Redneck" should be a legal defence in court.

That sucks, my roommates and I had a puppy, and she kept getting out of the yard, and we couldn't figure out how (we boarded up every hole we could find) but she kept figuring out ways to get out, and last week our dickhole neighbor called animal control, and none of use have the money to get her out.

Not the kind of storm you're thinking of... A regular, middle of the afternoon rainstorm, while we were all either at work or in class. It literally lasted 10 or 15 minutes. The thunder is what gets her all worked up. Also, I misstated what she has. It's hip displaysia, not arthritis...

Was the dog a German Shepherd?
I seem to remember a story about this quite some time ago, it was a German Shepherd they drug behind a truck. Not sure if it's the same people.
Eitherway it pissed me off greatly and I was ready to hit some people.
